Expensive, but great place to stay. It was very unique and antique.I loved their daily breakfast the most.Their goal seems to make me feel that i was home. The public living room was beautiful as well especially with the morning sunlight. When i left from the hotel, I ordered two sandwiches. I guess it was $25 for each with snacks and OJ. It was good as well.It is worth to stay at least once in my life :)

Five stars is perfect. Our experience was very good, but not perfect. I would not come back in October again, which is unfortunate since it is our anniversary month. A nice gentleman greeted us as we arrived and showed us to our room. Took care of our bags etc. Then promptly announced to us that we could adjust the temperature in the room, however the cool setting had been switched to heat. So no air-conditioning. I found this very strange since the entire week was +90F. I don't stay at hotels unless there's air-conditioning because of asthma. The room was so hot and uncomfortable all day, and into the night, did not cool down until 4 AM. Had to sleep with windows open and the traffic noise was unbearable as were the bright lights outside. To make matters worse, the mattress was in desperate need of replacement. Springs popping through to my back and a sink hole on the right side. Overall, the room was in moderate condition with stains on the carpet, broken blinds and windows that were broken and would not open. If not, for the room and air conditioning situation, our stay was very pleasant. Has mentioned in another review nearly 2 years ago, the gazebo on the nature trail is in a deteriorating state with shingles missing, etc. There are garden lights throughout the grounds that are broken and laying flat....Things that would not have been tolerated when Erna was here. Hopefully the new owners will address these issues soon as eventually they will compound, and reflect very poorly on the chteau

I only viewed the common areas, I did not stay the night here. I ate dinner at the restaurant, which is separated from the chateau by a small garden. I highly recommend the restaurant, The Elderberry House. However, they also offer a concierge service to stock your fridge if you d like.Chateau du Sureau was created by a woman from Austria in 1984. Her and her family lived near Yosemite and wanted to open a fine dining and luxury hotel in the middle of nowhere. It s a place of elegance, much different than its surroundings

Just wow. While the grounds were beautiful and the food was delicious the real star of the Chateau is the staff. We have been all over the world and to plenty of other 5-star hotels, but we've never received as superb service as we did here. Every single staff member was friendly, polite, professional, and my favorite: attentive to detail. Thank you all so much for the perfect weekend.

If I could live here forever I would. This property is simply perfect. The amenities, staff, food, are all 10/10.Rooms: We chose the Rosehip Room and were blown away with how cozy and luxurious it felt. Old-French charm with a lovely bathtub for two. The fireplace was used almost every other few hours.Food & drinks: The Elderberry House is one of the best dining experiences I ve ever had. Amazing staff and food.

Not sure where to start with this but it was SIMPLY STUNNING We knew within the first 5 minutes that our stay here would be special. The staff were the most accommodating and attentive I have ever seen.We had the pleasure of staying in room 2 on the ground floor and it was superb. Although it had a smaller bed than other rooms, we were told that it was this way as it matched the huge cupboard in the room. It didn t make a difference to us as the bathroom was spectacular (never had som many baths in my life), the bed was the most comfy I ve ever been and the whole decor was incredible. Each day we d have incredible breakfasts (main breakfast changes daily, croissants and option of Lemon Tart, Granola and Cheese/Charcuterie stays the same every day) along with a variety of whatever drink you d like. We were lucky enough to stay for 4 nights so tried everything - our favourite was the hits cheese omelette with mushrooms and asparagus. We would disappear each day and when we came back the staff would have made the room immaculate again (and I mean immaculate), felt like living a millionaires life. It s about 30 mins from Mariposa Grove of Sequoias, 1hr 30 from Yosemite Curry Village (El Cap, Mist Trail, Mirror lake) and knowing we were coming back to paradise made this treks a bit easier.SPOILER ALERT - if you want to keep the surprises they do a secret, stop reading now. They did little touches which made the stay extra special like different chocolates / messages on the bed each night, a bottle of wine for you upon arrival, bottled water each day by your bed and a few others as well.We were fortunate enough to meet the general manager as well and she gave us her experience of the 11 years she s had so far (she really epitomises everything this Chateau stands for), was a fascinating insight and even got a look in the spa (would have gone had we had longer). The gardens are worth a walk through, lovely Bocce ball area, a pagoda if you want to read in the shade and a large chess set as well.I cannot recommend this place highly enough, it s a special place and will make your holiday. It made ours

this was one of our favorite hotel stays EVER! this place is perfect. super dog friendly & they served us multi course meals in our mint room. they even accommodated our gluten free & dairy free requests with ease. there is literally nothing you can ask they won t accommodate. the kindest staff, sweetest service, & best food we ve had on vacation for a loooong time. we spent christmas there & it was decorated so cute! also did the elderberry body scrub treatment as a couple & it was so relaxing. didn t even go to the park, we were perfectly content by the fireplace the whole time :) 10/10 would recommend & attend again!

What a wonderful oasis near Yosemite! My wife and I were continually surprised and impressed by the service and thoughtfulness. We truly felt like we were at a French chateau when it was really just three hours from the Bay Area.We brought our sometimes anxious pup and loved the little paths through the trees to walk her. They brought us dinner in the room as we requested so we could stay with our dog.We tried to go up to Yosemite for sunrise but the air quality made visibility difficult. That said, one of the hostesses recommended bass lake as an alternative. This ended up being a great recommendation. We rented a small boat from Miller s landing and did a sunset cruise. We also stayed during a heat wave (102 both days) the ac worked like a charm! If you re looking for a luxurious stay in the mountains this is a great option!

There was nothing wrong with this place. The service was truly a 5 star experience. The house and grounds are beyond beautiful. Breakfast Is fantastic and would be a 20 dollar per person breakfast easily. The bottle of wine and treats that were filled nightly were delicious. Takes about 20 minutes to the South Gate of Yosemite.

I would give the service at the hotel a 10, if I could. We were greeted by our own personal concierge, Skylar, who immediately took us around the property, took our bags to the room and brought us a welcome snack. The personal touches were unreal. Highly recommend to anyone who wants a special experience!!Food & drinks: Amazing food at the hotel. We didn't make it to Erna's Elderberry House, but enjoyed the food at the hotel immenselyNoteworthy details: Service, service, service! We were pampered and left snacks, had a turndown service, etc. They thought of every detail

I was so excited to find a Relais & Chateaux in California, especially with a spa and a fine-dining restaurant so close to beautiful national parks. My boyfriend and I spent a magical weekend thanks to the beyond lovely staff at Chateau du Sureau. It felt like we were transported to France - the room was beautiful with fireplace, balcony, cozy bed, luxurious bath/shower. Every night we came into the room there were sweets and a nice note on the bed. Every morning there were cookies at the hotel foyer plus fresh fruit. The staff was all so enchanting, welcoming, kind. The breakfast every morning was superb. I definitely recommend this getaway - make sure to have dinner next door and a moment at the spa.

Stayed once two years ago (just pre-COVID) for an anniversary trip (loved every moment), but this review is for our trip last night! After a last-minute decision not to drive home after Yosemite, we called the Chteau to check availability around 3pm. The only room available was the INCREDIBLE salon suite in the Villa. They were very generous to let us bring our toddler (this was a very spontaneous night), and could not have been more accommodating.I loved staying in the chteau last time, but the Villa, in all it s turn of the century antique glory, is the coolest.

One of the finest places I have ever stayed. The grounds were beautifully maintained and the staff were simply super. The service was incredible. The restaurant was also outstanding and a must if you enjoy gourmet dining. I would highly recommend Chateau du Sureau to anyone who enjoys a European touch with American customer service and amenities.

The rooms were excellent. The only issue we had was the shower head and faucets that matched the Era but the flow was not good. Also very expensive.Nearby activities: 1/2 hour from the beautiful Yosemite Park.

Such a lovely getaway location for a romantic weekend! We had the most wonderful time here with the most friendly, helpful, and amazing staff! It was just so peaceful and sweet that you could feel the love that were put into it by the lady who first started the chateau. During my facial, I learned she was Austrian - and then it started to make sense why everything there reminded me of my beloved late Grandparents' place in Austria! Definitely recommend

We needed to get away from it all, if just for 24hrs. The check in process was a dream. Five minutes into our arrival Rani had made us feel at home, and I do not say that fleetingly. Within a half hour of arrival she had provided anything we could possibly need and handed us off to the Chef for dinner. Dinner provided a highlight with an exquisite caviar service that proved to be a rare treat. After dinner we wandered up to the Great Room to simply sit for a minute and finish our drinks. FOUR hours later my wife and I were still sitting in the Great Room, sipping chamomile tea, and winding down a most memorable evening. At one point Tina, our overnight host, poked her head in, introduced herself and made us feel perfectly taken care of. As she was leaving, she closed two giant wooden medieval doors, "So you have a bit more privacy," she added. It felt like we were sitting in an episode of The Crown. I am not giving up the secrets of the Great Room, but I promise you, if you slow down and take a moment to really see the details, you will find magic.Everything about the building and landscape is just top notch. But you can buy that anywhere. It is the people who work there that make the difference. The ease of your stay is why you come. That is what stood out to me. That is what you cannot get just anywhere.

We were staying in Yosemite and wanted to extend our stay in the area, but wanted something that was a bit nicer than what was otherwise available in the park.We found the Chateau du Sureau online and booked a room not knowing what to expect. It was magical and very unexpected. Terrific accommodations, extremely attentive service, and a fabulous restaurant. And the price was great.Truly a diamond in the rough.

It was an outstanding service, all the staff without exception was extremely friendly and all the accommodations were excellent. The bed was super comfortable and the whole area is very pristine, but less than one mile away from the shops in Oakhurst. Chateau du Sureau is definitely a hotel I will recommend to anyone who's interested in visiting Yosemite. And they are super pet friendly as well, our two little dogs had a great time there.Ps.: the guys responsible for the gardening are doing an excellent job!

I'd compare my Chateau du Sureau stay to a Porsche 911 with a Ford Fiat engine. Very elegant and full of potential but the attention to detail and service falls far from the graces of a 5 star hotel. We arrived, opened our own car doors, carried our own luggage but our experience felt redeemed when the hostess, Rani Grube said there were small gifts in our room as a warm welcome. Among the gifts was a gift card for dinner - so I thought. To our disappointed Rani returned to our room and say it was placed in the wrong room...How does this happen in a 5 star hotel with only 5 rooms in the building? It was the absolute worst 1st impression of the Chateau du Sureau you could have experienced. To make matters worse, I tired to reason with Rani and explained how we felt, having traveled 2,000 miles just to stay at the Chateau for our 20 year wedding anniversary, having spent over 1k for the room and dinner, only to have horrid wedding anniversary memory. Rani is NOT classy, she proceeded to argue with me and ranted on how they are short staffed due to covid(yet prices remain the same). I allowed her to give an explanation and once she finished I tried to make a reasonable case only to have her shut me down again. Not only does Rani NOT understand the American culture and code of customer satisfaction, but she does not posses the basics forms of hospitality not an iota. I would add that the food was AMAZING and so was the view! Hats off to the chef.So unfortunately they don't have an eye for small details that make a significant impression.

Went here for brunch, was not an overnight guest. The food was inventive and really fun - we definitely enjoyed it. This is more of a special occasion sort of place in my opinion, as it's relatively dressy and a little pricey, but it's very fun and we really enjoyed our experience there. It's a peaceful and pleasant way to spend a meal.

The Chateu du Suraeu is by far one of the best establishments to stay at in the Fresno-Yosemite area, it feautures a spa, several garden and trails filled with a bocce ball court, life sized chess board court, gazebo and swings. The staff is incredibly kind and talented and is truly the best I've ever seen. Will stay again here soon!

The finest and most elegant Hotel in the Sierra. Extremely private with 10-star service staff. When Hollywood stars come to Yosemite, they likely stay here because of the privacy. An incredible venue for a wedding and the restaurant food us to die for. Can't be beat!
