The owner/lady who checked us in was extremely nice. She made us feel very welcomed and relaxed. We decided to stay outside of Lone Pine for the weekend and are very happy we stayed here. The rooms were clean and they provided extra in room necessities. They are also pet friendly and to have such clean rooms in a pet friendly hotel is a PLUS!We will be back next year for annual getaway.

We had a lovely stay at the Courthouse Motel for a night. The host personally waited until after 10pm for us to arrive (we were super delayed and he was so gracious!) and greeted us with cookies! When I called to book the room, he warned us about some of the speed traps in Bishop and Big Pine as we were coming from the north. He also advised us to get dinner before reaching Independence as most restaurants would be closed by the time we arrived. Our room was super cute, really nicely appointed, and had amazing water pressure! The AC blows cold, there was room for us to park our two trucks, and we felt super cozy and well taken care of thank you!!

Great place to stay! Clean and comfortable. The owners were lovely! So funny and sweet and charming! We were wrapping up our week-long trip in the sierras celebrating our first wedding anniversary and they surprised us with a bottle of wine to celebrate. Wonderful people that run a great place. Thank you for the hospitality, it was sooooooo appreciated!

Our experience here was great!Very clean, nice personal touches that display genuine care for the guests. The manager is very kind and quite knowledgeable of the area.A wonderful place to stay while exploring the eastern Sierras.Rooms: Rooms are simple, exceptionally clean, toiletry selection is better than Hampton or similar.Nearby activities: If you are a movie fan, this is the place to visit. The nearby Alabama Hills at the base of the Sierras is great place to explore.Safety: We felt quite safe.Walkability: Hotel is in the center of town and great for walking pets.Food & drinks: Nice fruit basket & crisps presented upon arrival.Noteworthy details: The hotel proprietor is very kind & caring. She made us feel very, very welcome. Our room was simple yet nice. Our room was very clean with a thoughtful assortment of toiletries. On this trip we stayed in many large chain hotels. Some quite upscale, but none made us feel so appreciated as the fine manager of Courthouse Motel and none was as clean. We will definitely make this our place to stay when passing through Independence.

Only stayed 1 night, but would gladly have stayed longer. Wonderful service! The owners are very funny and informative, if you need anything, all you have to do is ask. The pillows were the BEST. Just like the ones we have at home. Artwork on walls was cute. Shower head was better than most big chain hotels. Overall, I want to come back here. Definitely recommend.

My wife and I came to independence in order to get back on the JMT. It was very hot outside and we didn't have a reservation. When we showed up the lovely lady and her husband greeted us and gave us a great room for a great price. Freshly washed towels, air conditioning, and wifi. They even gave us cold water and snack before we went to our room. Support these folks. They do an amazing job and give a lovely personal experience.

The service here is the best service I have ever received staying in a hotel. I am a pct hikers and showed up on a day where it was about 100 degrees out. I was greeted with a smile, water and an apple. The staff goes above and beyond, very friendly and create a welcoming atmosphere. 10/10 would recommend to any of my friends and family. The rooms are very clean as well as everything I needed and more (brand new tooth brush, toothpaste pack, comb, shampoo, lotion, etc.). Just over all a great experience and relaxing stay.

A great mom and pop hotel in Independence. I enjoy supporting these establishments, especially while on Motorcycle rides or road trips. The proprietors are awesome, very friendly. We got cold water and a basket of snacks on arrival. Rooms are clean. Would definitely stay here again. You won't find the Kardashians here, but you will find hard working people. Cheers

CLEAN! We are increasingly frustrated by the decrease in general cleanliness of the hotels(dot)com mid to lower priced properties for which there can be no excuse. Tired of finding out the hard way that a room is infested, we tried looking for independent motels not included in the online earn points apps. We saw many good reviews and no bad ones. Let me just say that i have never had the friendly owner meet me in the parking lot, direct me to a spot close to our (yet to be rented) room, and hand us a small basket with fresh fruit, snack bars, and cookies. Quiet, peaceful, and clean. Looked clean and smelled clean. We can definitely recommend and we definitely will stay there again. (Poopoo to this app that lowered my 5 stars to 4.7!) They definitely are a 5!

I loved my stay at this place. The rooms were small, but well kept and clean. I checked in, left, and made the mistake of turning off the air conditioner by the switch on the wall, and turned on the heater inadvertently. When I got back, my room was hotter than Death Valley. After an hour it still had not cooled off, and I told the owner about it. They are very nice and concerned about their guests. He offered up pizza, and Kool Aid drinks. I hung out in their patio area for another hour. By then the air conditioner cooled the room to a comfortable temperature. I slept like a baby until 4am until the room got to cold and I had to turn off the air. Very nice folks run this place. I'm moving to Reno next year, but I will still have business in Los Angeles. It will be my first choice of places to stay on the 395.

It was simply great! The two ladies at Courthouse Motel greeted us late at night after Independence Winnedumah Hotel where we made our original reservation simply did not open the doors for us, and we had to look for another place to stay. We were tired after a long drive and very stressed, and the team at Courthouse was so cordial and welcoming, I thought they were a gift from heaven sent to us that night. The place is very clean, very well maintained. Even though it says no breakfast but we actually did get small and healthy breakfast. They really do care about their place and their business, so we highly recommend them to all travelling through Independence.

I stayed in the hiker bunkhouse, which was $30 for a bed in a dorm room that includes a full kitchen and bathroom, plus a cute patio area with fire pit and grill. There were some minor issues with cleanliness in the room, but it was still a good value. The major selling point of the courthouse motel is the friendliness of the owners. They greeted me warmly, offered me cold water and snacks, and asked how I was doing every time they saw me. Truly five-star service and a warm reception.

We stayed at the Courthouse Motel while hiking John Muir Trail. It is a great place for the PCT and JMT hikers who need to resupply in Independence. It is more affordable than Mt. Williamson Hotel. The owner, Geeta, is the most hospitable, caring and friendly person. For a small extra fee you can leave your resupply box at the hotel and get your laundry done. She also has phone numbers for the drivers who can shuttle you to the trailhead. She goes out of her way to make sure your stay at her motel is comfortable, and provides a lot of information on where to eat or buy food. Rooms are sparkling clean, have a microwave, fridge coffeemaker and TV. Enjoy your stay!

Great location on the 395, and the owners/managers were very welcoming and hospitable. Rooms were nice - cold A/C and hot showers, close to a gas station with a sandwich shop. There's great stargazing about a 10 minute drive away near the fish hatchery.

The staff/owners are amazing. Super friendly and will go out of their way to help you. During the summer when it's really hot, some of the rooms do get really warm. Make sure to get the AC turned on right away or see if they can turn it on before your arrival. Otherwise, everything else was great!!

For our one night stay after being on the PCT for 12 days this was a magic motel. The owners/management were so accommodating. Our rooms were ready early, they gave us each a bottle of water and some fruit while we waited a short time for the rooms. A great family run motel, rooms clean, plenty of hot water, beds are firm, AC cold and great seating outside to enjoy a meal if you desire. 5+ stars!!!!

After driving 600 miles we needed to find a room to spend the night. This small motel in the middle of town was what we were looking for. The lady was super nice and attentative to my family. She even ask if we were hungry as she offered us frozen pizzas. The rooms were simply excellent, cozy, well equipped and quite. This little motel is a true gem in the middle of nowhere.

Friendly, really clean place with cozy rooms and thoughtful touches. Easy to find. Hot shower with good water pressure, and good heating in mid-December. Way better than similarly-priced alternatives in Big Pine.

Owner's are very nice. Dog friendly, pet charge. Thick, towels, nice personal touch, snacks too. Room 15 is closer to the highway, traffic all night. Solved it by running the fan all night. Would stay at again, but down closer to the alley.

This motel is really friendly towards hikers! We stayed in the hiker bunk room, which is a great place to stay on a budget. The motel also offers breakfast and dinner for a good rate. Since there are not many restaurants in Independence, this was really helpful. They also offered laundry services for hikers. The staff are friendly and kind, and the space is clean and comfortable.

I stayed here for a few nights from the PCT to shelter from the snow and order some new gear. The kindness and hospitality from the owner was incredible. The rooms were cozy and very clean. Couldn't have asked for a better stay in town.

My stay here was perfect, from beginning to end. A hiker s oasis! Coming down the mountain, I called to see if they had a room available. Luckily they did, and I was greeted with snacks and water by Gita. She was so welcoming, and helped me with contacts to get back to the trail the next day.WiFi, coffee, a hot shower what more could you want? The next day I checked out and chatted with Praveen on the patio until my ride came. I hope to come back here again some day, they really care about hikers and provide a warm and loving experience. Many thanks!
