100% recommend this shop! I have a 1973 Chevy / Grumman Olson P30 Step Van I swapped a 5.7/350 crate motor into and needed my SM465 rebuilt for heavy duty tow application and reliability.The owner was incredibly helpful, before, during and after the rebuild. The van is half a century old and people who posses the experience and knowledge of how to properly repair vehicles of this vintage are of incredibly short supply.The owner called me several times to inquire about replacing parts that seemed out of spec or in need of refurbishment, ensuring the final product was absolutely perfect.The price was fair, which is again a very rare occurrence these days.10/10 would highly recommend.

Craig rebuilt my transmission for my 97 Ford F-150. Now it is the smoothest most perfect transmission I've ever driven. It wasn't easy finding someone to work on a standard transmission. I'm extremely grateful for California Standard Transmission, my truck is drivable again. Very much worth the wait (2 weeks). It was easy to find someone to pull the transmission out to take to California Standard Transmission (only bring your transmission). Same person put it back in. The input shaft bearing 5spd transmission on my 1996 Subaru Outback sounded like a helicopter. So I had Craig soft-rebuild it. Now, not only is my transition not going to blow up, but the drivetrain has much less slop, and the car is sooooo quiet (probably not *just* the input shaft bearing that was noisy); kinda feels like having a new car. The transmission also has a new paint job, which I was not expecting but does look shiny and nice. Price was good. Craig picked up the phone when I called with questions, when I was trying to think through whether it was worth rebuilding; he wasn't rushed, gave good info. As far as I can tell from calling around, this seems to be the only manual-transmission rebuild shop left in the East Bay; glad it's a good one! If you need a shop to pull the transmission for you and bring it to Craig ("you can only bring me a transmission, not a car"), I used Douglas at C.A.R. auto service on Broadway Terrace, was happy.Service: Transmission
