Too notch shop! These guys know their stuff when it comes to VW transmissions! I was lucky enough to get a quick tour of the shop. It is clean and well maintained. Everything was organized and well laid out. My transmission looked new when I picked it up. Don't expect overnight repair. These guys tear them down completely and do it right! They even explained what failed in my unit.

I must say I'm impressed. I have not even installed transmission yet but the customer service is outstanding. Upon receiving my transaxle, I found that the c clips for the axles were missing. I called and they next day shipped the clips to Tennessee plus complementary orings for my acle tubes.Being the owner of a small business, I take pride in my customer service and am very satisfied with my experience with Rancho

David and Rancho were wonderful to deal with start to finish concerning my pieced together rail buggy. We concluded it needed a 68-71 bus transmission and David's team delivered a transmission that feels amazing and smooth. Aside from the quality of work, David was great to communicate with from start to finish which is no easy task with a 3 hour time zone difference. I highly recommend Rancho if you are looking for a quality rebuilt air cooled VW transmission.

Hard to go wrong with Mike at Rancho. Incredibly friendly and has been rebuilding VW transaxles forever. He s clearly very competent not only in my experience getting my Syncros transmission rebuilt but in about a dozen other people I ve met who ve had their trans rebuilt by him. Would highly recommend .

Rancho Performance was quick to answer our questions and helped us provide our customer with a rebuilt transmission for their 72 Super Beetle in the exact timeline they quoted. They were even quick to help us with an accidental double order that was a mistake on our end. We especially appreciated the open line of communication and the fact that they called us back everytime they said they would. We hope to do more business with them in the future.

DO NOT GO HERE UNLESS YOU WANT YOUR MONEY STOLEN. THEY CHARGED US 3 TIMES FOR SOMETHING THEY TOLD US WAS ONLY GOING TO BE 1000 AND THEN SAID IT WAS 3000. WE ARE IN THE HOSPITAL WITH OUR SON AND THEY STOLE OUR MONEY AND WE COULD'NT GET FOOD WHILE WE WERE HERE. THEN THEY GOT MAD AT US! VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. we also told them not to charge our card at all and they still did.Service: Transmission

I drive a Subaru Vanagon and when the transaxle started making a bunch of racket, I started looking around on The Samba, etc. for where to take it.Rancho was consistently spoken of as a particularly meticulous rebuilder who uses good parts and knows what they're doing.Also, I'm in L.A., so I was able to drive over there and drop my transaxle off, which was a bonus.Mike Herbert, a Vanagon driver/enthusiast himself, respected in the community did the work. I went with some options offered: oiler plates, LSD, and taller fourth and I'm very happy how it all turned out. Quick, efficient, and very well done. For those curious, I really like the longer 4th gear. I'm revving about 4k at 75mph, and can still accelerate up the Sepulveda pass in 4th. It feels "just right".I definitely recommend these guys. They're among the best in the industry.

Bought a pro street trans for my IRS converted VW notchback a couple of years ago. They were extremely helpful in figuring out what I needed with gearing etc for my intentions with the car. The trans now has a couple thousand miles on it and feels great. I will likely be buying from Rancho again.

About 18 months after Rancho rebuilt the transmission in my 65 vw doublecab it started poping out of reverse. It got worse and was grinding. I took it back. The owner came out, got under it and said he did not have time to take care of it and it was ok to just drive it that way. I spent $ 2000.00 at another vw trans repair in Riverside. They showed me the parts and completely locked up bearings. Their opinion was that cheap parts were used in hope that it would hold up.

All I did was inquire by phone about the availability of a 1st and 2nd gear slider for a mid 60 s T1 transaxle. The guy on the phone floated on a cloud of arrogance, kept interrupting me, told me they can no longer get them from Weddle and that he d be happy to throw together a transaxle with worn scrap sliders from their yard. I said, yo, no thanks. Found a local guy smart enough to stock up on sliders from Weddle. Dodged a bullet . I m not looking for a scrapyard rebuild, ya dig?
