Whilst traveling through the area I made an error on distances and happened upon this absolute gem of a place. The town of Downieville is gorgeous, as is The Carriage House Inn. The owners are wonderful and very nice to talk to. The rooms are very well laid out with almost every ammenity and very clean. Without a doubt I would highly recommend this place.Thank you for the experience!

The Carriage House Inn is owned by some of the most patient and nicest team of people I have ever met.The town itself is friendly and quiet and just beyond peaceful, compared to the big city. The Carriage House Inn matches that with it's charm. The rooms at the Inn are quaint, with queen size beds and sitting areas and small bathrooms, but the rooms are clean and well stocked with everything you would need to be comfortable during your stay. Our party arrived in Downieville late in the afternoon and after we opted to stay the night in town, we went about securing lodging. Again, the team at the Carriage House Inn went above and beyond to get us situated and ensure we were comfortable and enjoyed our stay.Three of our rooms had balconies that overlooked the river and in the morning it was very peaceful taking in the quietness of town and listening to the rushing of the rapids as we sat and enjoyed our coffee. This is definitely an excellent choice if you find yourself in Downieville and in need of lodging.Nearby activities: River rafting, hiking, fishing, nature walking, mountain biking, camping, drinking.Walkability: The business section in the town of Downieville is about 3 blocks total, so walkability is not an issue.

Managers Sonya and Mike exemplify what is great about visiting small town California..friendly with us, other locals, and dogs! We spoke of shared mountain bike experiences (Mike and I may tend to expose our wives a bit over their head); they were there for us at any moment during our stay if we needed them...yet otherwise, stayed out of our way to enjoy family vacation.Thankful for people like Sonya and Mike, and places like Downieville, and Carriage House Inn.

Arrived late in the day and unexpectedly after we were unable to continue our trip due to weather. Owners were wonderful and helped me and my family (wife and 2x dogs) get settled quickly. Beautiful views, and comfortable/quiet rooms. Would definitely recommend for anyone who needs a quick Sierra getaway

This hotel is designed to be really easy and stress free. I personally like their red lounge chairs by the river and the balcony off our room. There s a quite peaceful vibe just sitting there soaking up the sun listening to the river. The rooms are clean and cute and the right price point for a trip to this ridiculously cute town. Everything you d want is within a block of it which adds to the stress free feeling of the town.

We stayed at Carriage House for five nights in March. Sonya and Mike were amazing hosts! We had a great room that opened up right onto the river with Adirondack chairs and fire pits. Usually at these older hotels the furnishings and bedding is older as well, but our room was decorated beautifully with updated furniture and modern finishings, including a fantastic bed. I slept so well! The town is tiny and adorable! Make sure to visit the cemetery, it's a beautiful piece of history with 150+ year old gravestones. The Coyote Creek Cafe has great food (they are really generous with their avocado) and there's a bar right across the street from Carriage House. Really good hiking trails are nearby. My mom and I spent five days hiking and reading books by the river. Highly recommended!

Wonderful building. Our room was small but arranged very well. We had balcony that overlooked the river. The shower was nice and big. One of my favorite towns. If place was cheaper we would have stayed more than just one night. I wish there was a reasonable place to stay there. Low stars for service. The place was clean but don't have office with person in it. Had phone number that could call and person was very helpful

Carriage House is a relaxing inn tucked up next to the Downie River. The bottom floor room is nicely set up to walk out to the river patio and fire pits. It is a social location so only pick this if you like keeping your door open and socializing with other guests. The town is small with 2 places to eat so you may want to bring in groceries and use the grills at the Inn.

The Inn sits right on the Downieville River, and I fell asleep listening to the river flow by each night. Dreamy! The staff was very accomodating, and being pet friendly, they even took time to visit with our dog. The room was small, but clean and modern. The extra touches they made with teas, sparkling water and snacks exceeded our expectations. Got to see the owner Sonya around town, and she made us feel right at home.

Beautiful spot overlooking the river with nicely appointed rooms and shaded terraces. Very clean. Although I had the opportunity to view the rooms, I was unable to stay because I unexpectedly received a permit to climb half dome the following day. That said, the owner allowed me to cancel my reservation on the afternoon of my reservation free of charge! Downieville is a very charming historic town, with a quite/reflective vibe and spectacular mountain biking (Downieville Outfitters will set you up and is just around the corner). I will definitely be making reservations at the Carriage House Inn during my next visit.

We were trapped in this tiny town during major whiteout conditions. The innkeepers were quick to help us make immediate arrangements for two adults and three dogs. We stayed in a HUGE room open to a massive patio facing the river. The room had a TV, fridge, board games, and a sitting space. It was welcoming and WARM, which was what we needed. I wouldn't hesitate to rebook or recommend, especially for families and groups.

A very good stay for the weary traveler. Hosts Liz and Richard really pay attention to their guests, even anticipating their needs. Our large suite was clean, spacious, and well appointed. Anywhere near Downieville and I wouldn't stay anywhere else. My four traveling companions feel the same. Excellent place to bed down. Good food in the bar a half block away too!!

I stayed here in October 2017 for a fishing trip and loved it. (4 ****)I liked it so much, I booked the last room with a balcony overlooking the Downie river. This time at the end of the season (just after Labor Day).We were returning from a memorial service for my brother and arrived late afternoon on a Saturday.I would have given it a 4th star but it appeared that we were expected earlier in the day and were greeted poorly, as if we should have been there earlier in the day. I won't stay here between June and Mid September again. The hard boiled eggs and coffee in the morning are excellent. Bring supplies for food to keep in the fridge and eat at the Mexican food restaurant around the corner. This is still a good place to relax by the river DURING THE SHOULDER SEASON. After the bike riders and motorcycle crowds go back to work.

We've stayed at the Carriage House three times now and it's always excellent. Great view of the river, amazing little quiet town and the hosts are super friendly. Rooms have always been clean and very nicely decorated. Highly recommended. Maybe just don't be in town the same time as the "Clampers"...

Adorable little inn right on the Downie river and immediately adjacent to the classic 1-lane bridge on CA-49 into town. Couldn't be any more central. Across the parking lot is the Yuba Expeditions bike shop which rents high-quality mountain bikes and e-mtbs and runs shuttles up to the top of the trailheads. The inn is a family-run operation with spacious rooms, a big terrace overlooking the beautiful river, and solid wifi. The six of us (2 adults, 4 kids) fit comfortably into one of the river-level suites and were happy as clams. The mountain biking and hiking in the area are legendary, and they live up to the hype. Highly recommended.

The cozy room with great views from the balcony and easy access to the river and BBQ and picnic area was a plus also...we didnt take as many pics as id hoped because we were off our phones and soaking it up...but there is wifi and netflix that is available if need be..oh yeah some good organic coffee too...The ladies at front desk were super helpful and kind...they were able to lay out some rose petals and have champagne ready to surprise my new bride ...the view was amazing at night and in the day ...it was our 1st time there and we were pleased even for the one night we enjoyed it...if you're wanting to get a away and enjoy life.. id recommend the Carriage House Inn.Its in the heart of Downieville....even with the modifications in place during these times ...you can still find the calm in the storm...hope this helps...happy new years to you and yours. ..i did get a cool pic from the walk out balcony of the last full moon of 2020 .

Stayed at the Carriage House Inn last night. It was a wonderful experience. Richard and Liz are extremely nice. We have plans to go back in the spring. If you are anywhere near this Inn, it's so worth the stay
