A delightful experience that surpassed our expectations. During our family road trip to southern California, we chose this hotel for an overnight stay. The room impressed with its cleanliness and ample space, while the fireplace provided extra comfort on the winter night. The charming touch of a breakfast basket outside our room added sweetness to our stay. We opted to take it across the street, taking a simple yet satisfying breakfast while enjoying the view of the waves. However, a minor improvement could be made regarding the coffee service. The front desk coffee isn't available until 8 am, which, in my opinion, is a bit late for travelers. Additionally, the in-room coffee option resembles a tea bag and falls short compared to freshly brewed coffee.Despite this, I'm looking forward to return in future for another stay. If the coffee service could start at 7 am, aligning with the majority of hotels, it would definitely improve the overall experience.

Honestly great location. Perfect for the quiet getaway. The rooms are charming with a nice little back patio. The fireplace is basically your heater and turns on and off overnight, quite loudly might I add. The beds left a lot to be desired, quite firm with some springs, a memory foam topper or some extra padding would have gone a long way. Our shower was missing its door, weird but it was still OK to use. I'd come back if the beds were replaced. Service was great. The breakfast was charming. No coffee in the rooms, they had hot water and coffee in tea bags, not that great.Overall decent stay, only thing really retracting from it was the beds. Would be 4 stars if the beds weren't so bad.Rooms: Rooms are cute but the beds are very firm, if you're not used to that you're in for a rough night. No coffee machines and our shower lacked a door.Walkability: Moonstone Beach boardwalk is close.

Sea Otter Inn. I can t say enough about this adorable little inn. The location, room and unexpected amenities were fantastic. Our first introduction was with Patty. She greeted us with a warm smile and made us feel right at home by offering us complimentary coffee and cookies. Our room with a charming fireplace/heater was immaculately clean. It was equipped with refrigerator, coffee maker and other welcoming items. After a walk on the boardwalk and dinner Patty set up the fire pit for us ending our evening with a cozy fire. The most unexpected and delightful experience was the breakfast basket that was hanging outside our door at the appointed time. It was filled with our ordered breakfast treats which included breakfast burritos and OJ. The location was perfect, situated right across from pier. I highly recommend this lovely inn.

Everything was great. The delivered daily breakfast was really good. Really loved the rooms. Being right across a quiet street from the ocean was fantastic. The views are spectacular. The one thing I would change is allowing the input on the TVs to be switched for people (like me) who bring a laptop or firestick to watch their own shows.

"C" welcomed us warmly and processed us efficiently; she was flexible to our travel needs, and we were given a spotless fireplace room with a private patio."C" recommended a choice bottle of white wine, purchased in the lobby with two glasses; we enjoyed it out on the patio where she offered to turn on an outdoor fireplace for us - a great way to unwind after the trip from S.F.The hotel is on the quiet end of the beach, with direct access to vibrant tide pools and crystal collecting!

I stayed here just last week. The hotel is in a nice location, but there are far better options on the same street. The staff is completely unhelpful. Dropped off breakfast without even knocking or alerting us that it had been dropped off. The worst part? I was charged $112 on top of the $400 i spent for a night in a pretty sub-bar non-renovated stuck in the 90s motel. No itemized receipt and if you are lucky enough to catch the front desk, who pretty much never answers the phone they are not equipped to discuss anything promise to call back with a supervisor then never do. This loops you back to a reservations center that puts you back into the loop of being on hold with the front desk, you can't leave a message and no one picks up.AVOID THIS LITTLE SLICE OF HELL

Lovely location with a beautiful sea view and easy access to the boardwalk. Many tasteful touches, fireplaces, windscreened fire pits, complimentary and tasty breakfast delivered to your room (note that order has to be made before 7pm the night before... They called us while we were en route to get ours). Our room was freshly renovated and very comfortable.

I have not stayed on many places along that beach strip, however, the Sea Otter looked the best when I was driving along. It was a cozy room and the bed was super comfortable.Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The fireplaces were a nice touch too.If I could say one thing, and this is just a tiny thing.. the breakfast could be delivered a bit earlier. But yes, I'd definitely stay there again and hopefully soon!

I think this is the single greatest hotel I ve ever been to in my life. The staff was friendly and caring for me and my family as we stayed. The rooms were very decorative and comfortable, also quiet too.The main star here is the location For me it s away from the hellholes of San Francisco and Los Angeles and right at the entrance to the grand passage of Big Sur. The view is just surreal to stare at a never ending ocean of sparkling pure water, with no oil rigs or cargo ships lining the horizon. I felt complete here for some reason, I know I might sound over excessive for a small hotel business, but my experience here was nothing more than perfect. 15.62/10 would visit again

This was the best experience I've had in a hotel, motel or bnb in a very long time. And I've generally had very good experiences. This place tops them all. Here's why: 1.) Absolutely stunning location right on the Pacific coast. I'm sitting on some chairs, eating my complementary breakfast, looking at the ocean as I write this! 2.) They offer a free and very good breakfast delivered every morning to your door in picnic baskets. 3.) The rooms are modern, updated, very clean and a good, comfortable size. Shower was awesome. Beds were very comfortable. 4.) Free, and very good coffee and cookies available in the office. 5.) Staff is extremely professional and polite. We interacted with Patty and she was amazing! She made our entire experience even that much better by her friendly and helpful demeanor! 6.) Pool and pool area are well kept and clean. Pool is slightly heated, which is nice in this climate. Jacuzzi is great too. 7.) Nice areas to sit with wind screens and fire pits. 8.) Weather is usually great here. We had 60s-70s and sun. Light breeze. 9.) The cute little town of Cambria is nice too. 10.) The area is mostly a tourist destination, but it appears it is popular with an older crowd (no amusement parks nearby! ;-) This is nice though, because it means less kids and noise. I love my kids, but it is nice to just sit and have absolute peace out here for a little bit!! :-)You will not regret staying here. It is so nice.

We also stayed here at the Sea Otter Inn the first night it is a smaller hotel, but it is beautiful. From just about anywhere there you have a beautiful view of the ocean, how relaxing. we walked the trails across the street which got us even more views. The people at the desk were very friendly and so helpful. Melissa even remembered it was our anniversary, we had spoken to her the previous afternoon before we even left home. The wife loves the beach and I love the woods, we ended up getting the best of both worlds. Enjoy, we did. oh yeah, we met a couple there and they have really nice fire pits that you sit around with a view of the ocean. it was really nice.

We stay here frequently. The rooms have been recently refreshed. Outside lounge chairs and a fire pit make sitting and enjoying the view of the surf relaxing and enjoyable. The sunsets are spectacular.Moonstone Bar and Grill are three properties away and an easy walk. The Moonstone Beach boardwalk is just across the road.. One of the boardwalk's nearby routes leads out to a promontory where watching otters, sea lions, and other animals is easy.

A charming place to stay, with convenient access to the local seaside boardwalk, (and from there, a few beaches) and the nearby Moonstone Beach Bar and Grill.Rooms are comfortable and tastefully decorated, with some small but thoughtful extras. The complimentary breakfast is light, but sufficient to make a nice start to the morning. Pricing was competitive with similar hotels in the area. I would gladly stay here again.

Charming sums up the Sea Otter Inn precisely! Lovely motel, on the quiet side of town at Moonstone beach. The pool is small but ideal if not busy. Early afternoon it was quiet but got busy shortly afterwards. The boadwark is lovely, the beach is dramatic with so many amazing photo opportunities. When the fog comes in at night time it's absolutely stunning.Busy road behind and a road in front and quite a walk to the main town (2 miles). Rooms are nicely appointed and straight forward. Have everything you'd need except a safe but didn't feel need to worry about security.Breakfast is delivered by basket in the morning and free coffee / tea in reception. Large fridge and a small private garden was a nice suprise. Would recommend driving to supermarket to bring drinks / snacks etc... really nice restaurant few hundred meters down the beach.Morning View over the bay is beautiful.

Beautiful hotel landscaped with cottage flowers/plants. Right across the beach from the boardwalk, and our ocean front room had perfect views of the waves and ocean. Bad part - my husband is in a wheelchair and we could not access any of the outside amenities. The grounds - pool, fire pit areas, our private outside seating area, and even the office - are not accessible to someone in a wheelchair. No ramps to any of these. When he tried to get to the office (which does have a back door that a chair could use), we were told "sorry, employees only", plus it was blocked by a cleaning cart. Great hotel, but not for someone who is in a wheelchair.

The manager had the worst customer service. My friends and I stayed there and we choose to have the breakfast delivered the next morning for an extra charge. The breakfast was never delivered the following morning on the delivery window. I came out multiple times and took pictures that our breakfast was never delivered even though other rooms had their breakfast baskets. We brought this instance with the manager at the check out and the manager got really upset and accusatory that it was delivered. He yelled, called us liars and when o told him to show us the recording of security cameras he did not want to. I told him in the same tone he was talking to me and my friends that I had pictures and he told me to get out of the lobby or he would call the cops. He ended up refunding the money to mu friend, but what an unpleasant experience we had to go through. I am a Director of HR and never have ever dealt with an employee with that kind of attitude. I will never stay there.

We stay on the central coast often. This trip was the conclusion to a month long road trip. It was our 50th anniversary. We decided to spend more money than usually to celebrate our marriage. The rooms were clean , sized medium but not moderni. We prefer to stay in one storey buildings with parking directly in front of our room. This was not the case. Three parking spaces in a row were for ev charging. They remained empty during our stay. The shower was very nice lookingbut Icould not turn it on without getting wet. Its location was as good as could be in Cambria .Our breakfast was delicious. Restraunt in short walking distant was priced very good and was as delicious as we have ever had. Well enjoy restaurant again and again.,but the Sea Otter Inn not likely. The rooms have no Ac making humidity uncontrollable. Tempratures this close to the water ae not very bad,but humidity is very high. With climate change this will be of more concern.

The perfect location for an uncrowded, peaceful getaway. The hotel itself is clean, has a friendly staff, free parking, pool, spa, and fire pits. I suggest you get one of their ocean-view rooms so you can wake up to the crashing waves out your window and then watch the beautiful sunsets right from your room or sitting on your private patio in your reserved Adirondack chairs. Easy walking distance to two great restaurants or a very short drive to a very charming little town. Very close to Hearst Castle, seal viewing at nearby beaches, San Simeon, and the numerous wineries in Peso Robles. Highly recommended.

Cozy and comfortable rooms and they're always incredibly welcoming. The outdoor fire pits and indoor fireplaces make the evening and the hand delivered breakfast is delicious.

We enjoyed our stay here. The room was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. My wife is a vegetarian as they did not have veg options for breakfast. But when we called them they arranged some veg breakfast for her. Their property is nice, clean and well maintained. Nothing fancy or glamorous, but a well maintained inn.

OK, I don't know how to add additional reviews with Google, so adding on to a previous review. Another nice stay, this time with Sophie, our Yellow Lab. We always enjoy the peaceful Moonstone Beach. Being able to provide our EV a charge is an added benefit, thanks to the several destination chargers on site. Rooms have always been clean and with very good services. Included breakfast is a real treat with top of the line OJ.Previous review;Great location, tucked out of the way, with great beach access. Quaint rooms, with great breakfast burritos and Orange Juice. No problems with parking, what a great get away. Will return when I can.

We visited the Sea Otter Inn in February and had a very pleasant stay. The location is fabulous, right across the street from a boarded walking path along the ocean. Checkin was easy and Tom was very welcoming and friendly. Offered us their cookies, coffee and tea in their lobby. The room was clean, which is a top priority in my criteria for hotels. As with the other reviews they have a free breakfast delivered in a picnic basket to your room in the morning. What a fantastic touch to this hotel. No more getting dress and trudging down to a lobby with other quests to pick over the breakfast items. We enjoyed this homey feature immensely! We also took advantage of the fire pits and comfy chaise lounges at sunset. They also provide lap blankets at the fire pits for those cold winter nights. With all the wonderful features of this hotel their was one major caveat, the fireplace heating kept on going on and off every minute. It was so loud it kept me awake all night. I had to have it on because it was 42 degrees out.
