Amazing location directly across from the beach and entrance to walking path. Pool was slightly heated enough for the kids to enjoy. Hot tub was great as well. Towels were provided at both. Room had been updated, although the bathroom had some cracked tiles and peeling wallpaper. Great pillows and bed and friendly staff in lobby. Stayed in the two queen ocean view suite.

No one warned us ahead of our stay that a noisy renovation would be occurring on the floor directly above our room. Sliding door to patio needs replacement and was dirty anyway. Drape is full of holes. Bed was fine but furniture was old and falling apart. TV had no guide function. Chest of drawers old and stained, we just used our suitcases. Bathroom was a joke; stained tub, stained sink, bathroom door panel dirty from something, panels on tub are corroded and stained, ALL caulk is dirty, old and/or falling apart. Disabled parking location is also a joke - too far from room, on a slope and other non-disabled parked there anyway. Very difficult for my wife in a wheelchair to access our vehicle going and coming. The condition of this room does not justify the rate we were charged. We are long time patrons of Pelican Inn, first time we had been back in a long while. Very disappointed.Walkability: boardwalk facing ocean

This hotel was exactly as advertised. While the carpets and furniture in the room were a little dated (but totally functional), The bed was SO comfortable and the linens for both the bed and the bath were amazing. The towels were so soft and huge! And the bed had big pillows! The couch was comfortable, the fireplace was great for the chilly evenings and the view from the balcony was beautiful.Food & drinks: Bottles of water, soda, wine and snacks were available for purchase in the lobby. Room service was available from another hotel nearby (so basically delivery)

I booked a ocean view room. When I checked in they gave me a partial ocean view (I was not informed of this change ahead of time or even when I checked in). I was still charged for the ocean view room and told the charge would be adjusted later. Not only did they not adjust the charge but they gave me a credit at check out and then charged me for the credited amount after I left. I have tried repeatedly to talk to someone, but never receive a call back and the manager is never available. Stay at your own risk!

Came here for a relaxing birthday get away for my husband but was very disappointed. Could not get the TV remote to work after trying when we arrived in our room finally calling the front desk asking for someone to help get it fixed. We were told that they would try to find a maintenance person to come in, NEVER happened. Called again to let them know we were leaving our room to go out to eat dinner. They said that they would get a remote from another room NEVER happened. So needless to say we had no TV all the time we were here. What?!? We probably will not come back here and will look at other possibilities now that we see other hotels that are located here.Rooms: Dirty and dusty bathroom door and counter tile (ground in dirt in the grout), looks like it hasn t been rented in forever. Bed cover looked like there were oil stains on it.it was not a very good partial view room. What view?!Food & drinks: We came off season so we didn t expect to have too many choices for places to eat but really? You had to drive into town to get dinner at 5:30 pm.

This is solely a review on the customer service. I had hoped to stay here for an extended anniversary getaway, and had narrowed my choices down to this and one other option, but I had a few questions based on lack of or conflicting information online. First, the number is not direct to the hotel. Second, the rep was extremely rude and sarcastic, and chose to skirt answering directly based on semantic language. Seemed as though he didn't really have any answers, like he had never been to the property. I tried asking if he was on-site, but he hung up before I could ask. Based on this interaction, I can't book with this hotel. It would be incredibly useful if they would provide pictures of the room bathrooms or describe them online. When booking a romantic vacation, I can't imagine a standard tub/shower combo would suffice.

The Pelican Inn & Suite was easily located, check-in was a snap, the suites were sizeable and came with a jetted tub, fireplace and partial view balcony. The sunset on the first night was spectacular.I was a rather needy guest - having a work emergency that required printing. The front desk was accommodating, and when I went down to pick up my item, the manager discovered that it was my birthday. She gifted me a bottle of wine for my birthday.I enjoyed that wine the following night with dinner from Madeline's, recommended by the staff (menus are available in the office for most local restaurants).Rooms: We stayed in a 1 bdrm Suite, with a partial ocean view. The room included robes, a jetted tub within a shower enclosure, a spacious bathroom/vanity area, 2 televisions, a pull-out sofa, fireplace, and partial-view balcony. The room decor was somewhat dated, but not unpleasant.Nearby activities: There are great sightseeing vistas, along with beaches (no dogs, even leashed, on the beaches). There are a couple of (again no dogs accommodated) restaurants and a wine tasting room on Moonstone Drive. For additional restaurants and shopping, you'll need to head over to Main Street. Hearst Castle and the Elephant Seal Rookery are within 15 minutes or so.Walkability: Directly across the street from the Moonstone Drive Boardwalk. Speed limit in this area is 25mpg, and crossing is easy.

Amazing views of the ocean, with a back patio directly across the street from the boardwalk and the beach. The room was comfortable, with great beds, nice TV. The bathroom was in need of a renovation to bring it into this millennium, otherwise great room. The one thing I disliked was the room service, serviced by a local restaurant called the cow tipper. Our order was missing items both times we ordered, the steak sandwich was not good, and priced over 20$ each, they were terrible. Cheap steak very tough, and the arugula stems weren't removed, leaving sharp ends that stabbed my mouth. They did give us a refund when we told them, so thats good. Their willingness to refund was why i stayed with the 5 stars. Great experience overall. I will stay here again happily Noteworthy details: Beach is beautiful, wooden walkway spanning the dunes above

Do not stay here!!!!We booked this hotel for the last night of our road trip. We were given a room that smelled bad and had no screen on the patio door. We asked to be moved to a different room which was worse. It was filthy, with stained carpet and had a strong smell of URINE. To top it off there was a big dead bug on the floor. We asked for a refund but we re denied. It was so gross we left and went to a different hotel.

I suspect the whole place is in need of renovation. But the bigger issue is the cleanliness of the rooms. We were in room #422 and there were stains on the carpet, some marks on the top cover and dust on the edges of things like the light switch in the bathroom. the rail where the closets open and closed were quite dirty. The service at the front desk was fine.

Other than the location the rooms are old and outdated our room smelled funny . For the price not worth it .We checked in after hours and there was nobody there we had to drive to another hotel to get helped and the person there had to drive to our location to check us in .We are not staying here again . They also charge for there water that they have in the rooms for you $5 each

Cheryl, Carmen and Carmen were all amazing. The location is great, the price seems unreasonably low. From a world traveler, this was a 5 star room at a 3 star price. I will absolutely come back.

I m completely flabbergasted as to how anyone gives this place more than a single star. My wife and I made the mistake of booking this place for a weekend trip to Cambria and my experience was pretty terrible from start to finish. To begin, when we checked in it was such an odd interaction. We were a bit early and asked if we could check in, no expectations. Front desk lady says let me call the housekeeper to see if your room is ready . I watch her pick up her phone. Look at it for two seconds and put it down. She asked us to wait which we patiently did. When it was time to check in a new guy takes over repeats the same thing and also just looks at his phone for a sec and asks us to wait. It was all around just odd behavior but eventually we checked in.Once we arrive to the room, we were in utter disbelief. The shower was so filthy we asked to have it clean again, which of course never happened. A crib was supposed to be in the room for the baby which we asked for in advance but had to remind them. The sheets had a funky smell. The TV barely works and the outdoor patio we had was hardly anything but private. We had a beach view room that actually has a street with cars and people passing in front of it so that was underwhelming. The AC was nonexistent so we were completely miserable at night and just felt constantly uncomfortable with how filthy the place was.I d like to emphasize none of this would matter to me if this was a cheap motel we got on a road trip but this room was like $400 a night. I have no idea where the money is going because these rooms haven t been updated in decades. The Pelican Inn is the first hotel I ve written a review on because I felt the need to warn people to NEVER pay these guys a dime of your money. It s unlikely but I hope the city of Cambria realizes they would actually benefit from allowing a limited amount of chain hotels to open up and provide competition because I m sure this is not the only hotel taking peoples hard earned money like this.

My comments are similar to others. I will try to be a bit more specific, though. Front desk attendant was very polite and welcoming. Nice job, front desk. The location is excellent, but so are all the hotels along Moonstone Beach. The facility is worn out and very beat up. Plus, Our room door was open when we first arrived. I mean, open, not unlocked. Open. Weird. The fireplace in our room did not work. Maintenance got it working, but we then could not turn it off. Really inconvenient having maintenance come to your room. Window did not lock. Window faces driveway that is a mere 2 ft away. Room was on ground floor. Someone added a tiny eye screw to hold the window closed at one time, but it was stripped and would not hold a window closed. Cobwebs hanging from the ceiling. I have these at home, but don't expect them at a hotel. The fan in the bathroom did not work.Little things, but it all adds up to a lesser overall experience. The overall experience was not enough to get us back to that hotel. We will try a different location next time. No guarantee it will be any different, though, to be fair.

Malodorous and run down.Staff were excellent and location is perfect but those are the only two positives. Had an upper floor ocean view suite. Couch was dirty and stained, pillows smelled sweaty, so glad we brought our own as a back up as not our first rodeo. Bathroom very dated with noisy plumbing. When we moved on to the next hotel up the coast the first thing we did was out all our clothes through the laundry. There are a couple of restaurants close by but don't take reservations only take cash and have limited opening hours. I get the impression businesses get so much passing trade they don't bother.

Almost cancelled reservations after reading bad reviews but soooo happy I did not ! What a wonderful stay in Room # 105, Comfortable huge bed and beautiful view overlooking partial parking area and Ocean. Clean Room and wonderful staff here. Little Carmen was super accommodating at check-in and made sure we were happy with the room. Planned on spending only 2 days but we loved it so much we did not want to leave and stayed one extra day. Angel, the manager and Hugh at the front desk were also Overly Accommodating to make sure we were satisfied throughout our stay. So close to Ragged Point (must see) and wineries on Route 46 as well as Cayucos and Morrow Bay. Cambria was beautiful as always but this trip was extra special mainly because of the excellent Hotel we stayed at, * Thank You Pelican Inn and Suites, we will be seeing you again A.S.A.P.Food & drinks: Giovannis Fish Market / Take out express in Morrow Bay has by far the Best Fish and Chips around ... We tried most places in this area and they are positively the best !

Beautiful place and great location. Staff is nice but the rooms need help. Very dirty and run down. Stains everywhere and nasty. Our curtains looked like a crime scene;. Bathrooms need a makeover and actually the entire place is a dump. Spend more find better spot. We actually left a day early cause it was too nasty to stay another night.

More a $100 2-Star hotel. We booked 2 balcony rooms, but when arrived were told none available and our rooms had to be opposite ends of the hotel. Staff just shrugged as though not their problem. Hot Tub jets weren't working and no one at reception to help. Room rather dated and bathtub had the lining peeling, also no breakfast onsite.Rooms: Very dated and run down bathroom.Noteworthy details: Staff have quite bad attitudes, perhaps due to the number of complaints as other were complaining when we checked out.

Was a beautiful and comfortable room and bed. The only issue was the spider webs on the walls and ceiling and the 1 spider on the ceiling and the carpet had crumbs. But the room was so beautiful and the workers were so friendly and kind always smiling. So it made up for thatRooms: Beautiful and comfy. Could run a vacuum thru it and wipe the walls and ceiling for webs and crumbs. But so beautiful and comfyNearby activities: Bluff hikes, wonderful little town.Walkability: Was very close to the beach and many bluff hikes.

While the service is kind and accommodating, the dated rooms are not. I'm not usually a thread count person, but my elbows were scratched-up from the sheets, and the mattress needs to be replaced. We stayed in an ocean front room, and obviously the natural beauty can make one overlook these things. Still, at the price I would need serious updates to stay at this hotel in the future. I have visited Cambria many times in the past, and plan to do so in the future, just not here. I wish them the best. .

The front desk lady was very nice and accommodating. The room was sooo nice. We had the King suite with view of the ocean. We had a little livingroom with fireplace, a balcony with chairs and table, microwave, fridge, coffee maker, robes, big screen TV (even though we didn't watch), and the cleanest, most comfy, wonderfully clean smelling bed. Oh, and the sound of the ocean to sleep with. We would definitely stay there again.Safety: We felt extremely safeWalkability: Literally a hop, skip and jump to the beach. Also, we walked to our restaurant.

The location here is beautiful and I know that's what we were paying for, but that's about all we were paying for. We upgraded to an ocean view room with a patio. A full $427 for one night. We could not open the patio screen door because it fell off every time. So we ended not being able to use the patio at all. When I lifted up my pillow, there were stained brown streaks on the fitted sheet. Gross. There was a 18" long cobweb hanging from the ceiling that I had to duck under, which caused me to look up and see that the fire sprinkler heads were just covered in thick dust and cobwebs. The ceiling fan did not work. It was unclear if it was broken, or if the controls were broken, as the "Low" button on the control was missing. There was an external light from the hallway that shines directly through the bathroom shower window into the room and keep the room lit all night long. I felt like I was staying in a budget motel, and not somewhere where we paid, again, more than four hundred dollars for one night.

We have stayed at the Pelican Inn on our anniversary for the past 10 years. Our last stay in March, 2022, our room was entered by someone who stole credit cards and some cash. We had already checked out when our bank notified us of suspicious activity. We called the hotel, manager did a check of the door key record and said nothing looked unusual. Nothing more he could do and would notify corporate. We have tried numerous times to contact corporate with no response. We are not looking for a refund, just some acknowledgment that something happened. Will not return to the Pelican Inn and are staying at a different hotel this year. Very poor customer relations
