I ve been away from the Bay for a few years now, and one of the losses is Peter s Automotive and Vee s honest, competent car repair. I probably owe Vee back pay for all the good work he did at such incredibly reasonable prices; and all the help he gave me besides, when I couldn t come into the shop but could do something about the issue on my own. He literally saved my car when I was on the road, when another mechanic told me unequivocally that the engine was destroyed based on what I d reported. Two years later, the car s still running. I cannot recommend this shop enough; and I do recommend it, to everyone I know still living in the Bay. Bonus: it s within walking distance to both North Berkeley BART and the gourmet neighborhood, which makes dropping off your car an easy and pleasant experience. Peter s Automotive kept my cars running at low cost for years; let my loss be your gain. Take advantage of one of the remaining honest, home-grown businesses in the Bay.

Vi works wonders on older cars, at very reasonable, honest prices, and our older cars are always performing very well , well past "normal" thanks to his diligent care.

Took my car in to get looked at and was helped no questions asked! They were able to do the work for me but sourced some other places that could! Great neighborhood shop, felt like I was treated like a regular even though it was my first time going in!

Vi was suggested to us by very a good friend. He is skilled at working on older Subarus. My car was a 2000 Subaru Forester. We had this loud roaring noise in the back of our car and he was able to identify the issues right away. Now the car runs smooth without noise. Honest and trustworthy mechanic.

Let me premise this by saying I m an auto technician of 8 years who is currently in school. I called Peter s automotive asking them to do a simple 20 minute job for 1987 BMW. The car is a incredibly simple car to work on. The owner, V , very rudely said he doesnt work on BMWs and hung up to phone before I could say anything. Terrible customer service.Don t take your car to a shop that cant work on a car that is so simple, as they are likely to mess up anything more complex. Not only that, but poor customer service usually indicates dishonesty.I called the next shop down the road, and they didn t care what car I had.

UPDATE: I have been going to V for every issue I've had with my 2004 car. And he's the best. Friendly, honest, experienced, and quick! I can't say enough good things!...I took my car to this place because the check engine light came on and the car was jolting and failing to shift gears. V dropped what he was doing and immediately ran out to my car and did a diagnostic test for FREE. He encouraged me to hold off on repair unless necessary because it would cost appx $800, and he turned off my check engine light and told me to come back if it happened again.When it did, he once again stopped what he was doing and ran to my car to do the diagnostic test. Though I did not get any work done because of needing to go directly to my car dealer, I highly recommend this place!I have never been so impressed with a mechanic's promptness and honesty. V obviously works hard and truly values his customers. I plan on going to him for every issue I have in the future!

I called him on the phone and he told me the issue was the alternator with certainty and confidence. He could not service my car because it is a Nissan. This was impressive because I described the exact same problem in detail to multiple other mechanics and all were unable to give me an exact diagnosis or a guaranteed estimate over the phone. I confirm the alternator was the issue via AAA diagnostics. Today I completed the alternator repair with a friend, and the car is running well. For more complicated repairs this will be the shop I go to from now on if I get a different car. He demonstrated expertise, and unmatched candor over the phone.

I took my car to V to have him replace my brakes and inspect a few other issues. He called me an hour later and told me the brakes were perfect and didnt need replacing. Charged me nothing. It's so rare to find someone this reliable and trustworthy in the industry. Thanks V!

Donald is prompt, honest, inexpensive, and personable. A low-overhead neighborhood guy with a personal touch and a commitment to doing it right as inexpensively as he can. He has kept my Mazda van happy for at least ten years. He was recommended to me by a friend who sells Hondas - that's a recommendation.

The mysterious man known simply as "V" (Peter Mitchell's mechanical heir) is an honest, hardworking mechanic, who is known and loved by locals. one of the kid of guys who might just point out what;s wrong with your car that you can fix yourself, rather than make money off your ignorance. Refreshing in a field filled with scam artists. I recommend him for all auto repairs.

Donald is a amazing guy. Brought my cars in for service and minor problems. He took the time to check my car issues and explain what options I have. He was never pushy and always gave his honest opinion. Hard to find real mechanics like him these days.
