We purchased a rebuilt long block from Jim, trading another engine core, and brought it home to find end play was 18 thousandths (should be 3-6 thousandths). Tried to reset it, to find the rear main thrust bearing was loose in the case. This shows he never actually rebuilt the engine. We have him a second shot, took the engine back down for another rebuild. This time when we got it home, the engine would not idle. Found 40 pounds difference between high and low cylinders (there should be no more than 10 lbs difference.) One cylinder was under 90 lbs. (Should be 130-140.) Jim's feedback when we finally got a hold of him was "drive it for 100 miles and if it doesn't fix itself, bring it back." Um, you can't stay running at a light if it won't idle. After taking the engine in and out of the car, dealing with his hours being 10-2 if he even is in the shop, driving hours to get there and back, and being out almost $1000, we are disheartened and afraid to give him a third chance. We cannot steer you away hard enough from this shop. What appears to be a good deal is a disaster and we have been pretty patient to try twice. I will update if we try a third time and Jim magically makes it right.
