I take both my cars here. They are fast and historically have finished with the cars at the time that they said they'd finish if not earlier. Also a bunch of great guys there too!

This shop is not endorsed by the Better Business Bureau.Labor charges are $198/hour (more than Tesla's!) and diagnostics and repairs are SLOW.Communication is poor: set an appointment days ahead, drop off at 8, don't expect to hear before closing.It took DAYS to determine that my flooded vehicle was caused by a leaky moon roof, which seems pretty obvious, and DAYS to diagnose and replace an O2 sensor for sluggish performance. Over $2k for each.You are better off getting repairs from the dealership for your particular vehicle.Definitely a male-oriented "good old boy" shop where female customers don't get the same attention as male. More than once I have had to sit and wait to be served, while the desk staff socialized at length about nonrepair matters with male clients or took other calls.My husband used this shop for ages, but I'm done. Very disappointed.

4.5 stars, if it would let me indicate that. Engine Works are still awesomeness even after I switched vehicles quite a few years ago. To be fair, I'd been going to the dealership then back to Big E Automotive, who may as well be Engine Works' Peninsula cousins. But when the codes thrown were too urgent to slog across a bridge, EW to the rescue. Practically walkable. My only complaint is despite having an appointment, I had to call in the next day for an update. A same-day call even to say we're still at it would have been 5 stars. That aside, everyone was friendly, explained specifically what was going on, and worked with me in deciding priority of repairs. Sooo glad EW is still an Alameda fixture with emphasis on fix.Services: Electrical, Engine repair, Vehicle safety inspection

When my auto mechanic decided to retire I needed a new place to take my 1965 Mustang. My old mechanic recommended Engine Works. The work they have done for me is professional, high quality, and reasonably priced. The Office manager Vince, is clear and concise when explaining what is needed on your car. The mechanics, Ben, Ren, and Santos are the best mechanics you can find.They stand by their work. I highly recommend this shop for all your auto maintenance and repair needs.Services: Electrical repair, Steering & suspension repair, General repairs & maintenance, Auto engine tuning, Engine repair, Brakes, Battery, Oil change

I have been using Engine Works for many years. The best auto repair service I have ever used. They do the warranty work on my lexus suv. No trip to the dealer - Yay! The owner, Eric, is The Expert on Diagnostics and Repairs!! Vince, the service manager, is excellent at scheduling, paper work, communication, etc. Most recently, early june 2023, someone drilled a hole in my gas tank and stole the gas. Had it towed in Wednesday. Back by friday!!Service: General repairs & maintenance

I finally found a great mechanic. The best mechanic EVER since Car-LOS retired a decade ago. Honest, excellent, detailed, TRUSTWORTHY, fair price (less than dealership), capable, able to work on all three of my old cars (including Lincoln). Most recently, my daughter was given her grandma s old car, and literally as we drove away things started happening. Windshield wipers spray on the hood. A week later, back door stops locking. Four weeks later the other back door window falls down inside the door. Engine works fixed everything and checked the car out totally. Not only is the car perfect now, QUALITY repairs, but I feel so much better knowing that it s been checked out by this team. I can t say I can t wait to come back, LOL but if any of my cars have any issues, I will 100% only be coming here. THANK YOU to Vince and the Engine Works Crew!!!!!

Vincent is always thorough with the paperwork prepared for my service. I've taken my vehicles to Engine Works countless times, and each time the focus is on my service or repair, a professional. Twice we room our car in elsewhere , & they finally figured it out ! Two weeks later , wheel bearings went out . They sent out for machining , i Had hoped to have it back yesterday , but you know , today I was panicking as they had not yet returned them late on the day : as I have a wedding in Redding , & @180 a day rental YIKES, well there put two guys on it the minute there s came in & voile ! I have my car.Can t say enough t wonderful things about this shop & the team , HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

I've taken all four automobiles that we own in our family to Engine Works over the past 8+ years. Brakes, transmission repair, oil changes, electronic evaluations and repair, etc. Eric and his crew there are excellent at what they do. They are highly qualified in auto repair and service and have always been honest with their opinions. They are not out to waste your money. They are out to make sure you are driving an automobile that is safe and qualified to be on the road. We will continue to use Engine Works and have guided a number of friends and neighbors to them.

I came to Engine Works after being estimated a crazily high price at Honda El Cerrito (> $2k). Engine Works took my car, checked the recommendations from the other service and figured out that most of the stuff doesn't need to be done. They also discovered and fixed what the other service didn't notice and charged me only a couple hundred dollars for the whole service. They were nice, communicative and fast. They also gave me a ride after I dropped the car. I purely love this auto service! Will come only to them next time!

I sort of inherited this garage when I bought my used Prius because they had serviced it since brand new. At the time I did not have a trusted mechanic in alameda so I decided to give them a try when it was time for a service. I have not been disappointed in these past three years. They consistently do good work, stand by their work, and never recommend unnecessary jobs. I m sure some garages out there are a bit cheaper (you get what you pay for) but this is not a place that will rip you off. Both my wife and I are treated with respect and courtesy when we drop off or pick up a vehicle. Highly recommended.

Fine service and reliable mechanical services. We have been using Eric's Engine Works for many years. His staff are well prepared to troubleshoot and guarantee all repairs. We have had six different vehicles over the years maintained by Engine Works and have been highly satisfied by all work performed.

Did a smoke check here on 10/25/2018 on my Mazda 3 and happy with service from R em and his team. Good technical, proffesional work and clean facility. Their price is great compare to Fred's W. The only downside is parking surrounding area.

Simply Stated .. "The Best care and service." There is no question that when your car is in the hands of Engine Works, you haven't any worries or concerns. The work will be done correctly, in a timely manner and at a reasonable cost. They have been my go to mechanics for many years.

The cost of the work i had done was high, they told me all 4 of my calipers were shot thankfully i didn't have them replaced its been 4 months and my pads are all wearing evenly and at a normal rate, and they broke a part i told them not to touch and it costed me a weekend I'd been looking forward to for over a year and had a few 100 dollars invested in. The only reason they're getting 2 instead of 1 star is that they paid another shop in visalia to fix the mechanical failure they caused. Wouldn't go back let alone recommend them.

I've gotten work done here a few times and have always been really happy with the work they do. I love their early/late drop off option- just fill out the form, leave you key and put it in the box. Their work is always done in a really timely manner and I never feel like I'm getting the run around from the mechanic. As a woman who knows nothing about cars I sometimes feel like I might be getting ripped off. But never with these guys. Super professional and friendly!

Eric, the owner, and Vince, one of the mechanics, were great. I first had my vehicle smogged there a couple years ago and got a good feel about them and the service. I made a mental note to return should I ever need a mechanic. Recently, I started having some serious issues with my beloved Miata i.e. loud rattling, hesitating, stalling, and smoke from the exhaust. I stopped by to make an appt and Eric got me in the very next day. I left the vehicle with them overnight and got the diagnosis and estimate in the morning. Although a lot of work was needed and parts had to be ordered, it was all done in less than 2 days and I was able to pick it up after business hours. Most importantly, I felt the cost was reasonable and the service was excellent. I would highly recommend Engine Works and will definitely be using their services in the future. #engineworks

The people at Engine Works are fantastic!My car would not start and being from out of state I did not know where to go. I found this shop on Google and chose them because they have good reviews. They very quickly diagnosed and repaired my car for a very fair price.I highly recommend the shop to anyone in need of automotive repairs.

It's so great to find a auto repair business you can trust. Eric always stays up to date with the latest tech on repairs. I have taken three different cars to him over the years. I can't see myself using anyone else. He's not just a business owner he's a neighbor.

I took my car here for a diagnostic and they were able to figure out the problem quickly and efficiently. Very responsive team and helpful. I am very thankful they were able to fix my car in a timely manner. I will be using engine works again in the future.

Great guys. Friendly, prompt, quality work at a good price. I ve gotten a transmission swap and oil changes from them, and never felt like I m being up-sold on anything. They re my go-to shop, and can t really ask for more.

Took the car in for a warranty repair other shops never properly diagnosed. Vince the service writer was friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Handled all of the paperwork and payments for us from our warranty company. Vince explained what they found and how EW fixed it. They have apparently solved the problem, and I would send anyone there for car repairs.

As I was leaving California to go to Arizona, I needed to ensure that both cars were sea worthy. Eric and team did what was necessary to ensure safety while factoring in cost efficiencies. The cars were done before the time promised. Great Value!!! You will be treated with respect and honesty!!! The work will be explained and given estimate of work needed. They stand behind their work!!! A clean work space is always indicator of a good Craftsman: Engine Works is Clean and Organized!!! Tell them Brian and Drew sent you!!!

Keeping my 14 year old Buick purring. They are kind, honest, and the best. No, I'm not a relative although I'd be proud to be. I'm just a lady of a certain age who feels blessed not to have to worry when my car needs work. My two adult sons echo this praise. Good guys, proper work. Thank you, Lyn Lucasey

I really love this shop, all of the staff are very friendly & seem to know what they re doing. They are straight up with you & fair. & will let you know if it s necessary to spend money on something you can live with for now. I highly recommend this place, they haven t failed me yet & I ve been coming here for 2 years now. Vince (The Owner I believe) has great customer service.

Looking for a battery for my wife s car. They have it in stock. Wouldn t let me use a simple tools to remove the existing battery. I am buying a $124 battery, and wouldn t lend me a tool , that cost $4 to remove the old battery, while I am there.So, needless to say: I bought it some where else.Never mind I am a AAA member and was referred to them.Definitely not coming back or recommend do to lack of good customer service.

I dread taking my cars to mechanics. The team at Engine Works alleviates that feeling by being fair, courteous, and prompt. Pricing is average and I haven't felt like I've been recommended services that weren't necessary.

I wish I could give then a 5, but I had a terrible experience here. I brought my scion XB into engine works. They drained the fluid, but forgot to put it back in. Braking my practically brand new vehicle. Eric tried covering it up, but the damage had been done.
