Having been raised in Arkansas, the state's beauty never ceases to surprise me, however that doesn't prevent me from experiencing moments of sheer bliss when I find myself surrounded by nature's bounty. My husband and I traveled to Boxley Valley to view Totality but eventually moved on to Jasper to gain greater viewing time for the eclipse. However, we squeezed in time to take a 2.4 mile hike through Lost Valley where we were treated with enormous rock formations, caves and a pristine waterfall.I recommend a visit to the nearby Ponca visitor's center to do a deeper dive into the area's history and wildlife. Unfortunately, timing didn't permit any elk viewing, but we will be back. Boxley Valley is a wonderful place to slow down, take a hike and unwind while picnicking along the Buffalo River. A quick trip to Jasper to enjoy a quaint mountain town seemingly frozen in time is a must.

Nice area to visit. For me, the best luck I have to see elk is early morning or about an hour or so before dark in the fields. Historic buildings are also located in the area along with great floating and hiking.

This area is exceptionally beautiful, especially in spring and fall. What a drive. You can feel the pioneer spirit when you re in the area. There are hiking opportunities galore. I feel very serene when I visit this area. Everyone I encounter in this area is always friendly. I would recommend a visit for the downtown outdoor enthusiast.

Very pretty area and a nice chunk of history. I took the walk over the Ponca low-water bridge to the James A Villines Homestead, and enjoyed checking that out.We also saw elk, but not at the elk viewing area, but at the gate just where you come into the Ponca low-water bridge parking area.It made me laugh to see cows just on the other side of the fence from the old Walnut Grove cemetery. Cows and graves!

The best place to see Elk is Boxley Valley, around the Buffalo national river. Stop at the Ponca Elk Center on Arkansas Highway 43 in Newton County to get information. There is an elk viewing area marked near the elk center, but nobody told the elk they need to be there. It is pretty rare to spot an elk in the viewing area. You're better off moving to other areas nearby.f you like hiking and historical sites. there is a ton of outdoors places to explore here. but you do your research correctly.

We were riding from Russellville to Harrison when we noticed people looking at wildlife and I knew instantly it was the Elk. So beautiful to see them in the wild and not in a zoo.We also rode a little further north to Beaver Jim Villness home built on the 1850's.

Love Boxley Valley and Ponca. Hiking in Lost Valley. Canoeing and kayaking the Buffalo River. Watching the wildlife (elk) and enjoying the natural splendor.

Boxley valley is very close to Ponca Arkansas and if you are coming from Harrison Arkansas, it is situated soon before you reach the Buffalo River Upper Wilderness Area. The Boxley Baptist Church is in the valley and wild elk roam. Jacki Kellum, a local artist, painted the barn which sits across the highway from the Boxley Baptist Church

Lost Valley is a wonderful place to check out, which is in the Boxley Valley area. Great trail to a wonderful waterfall, a little steep in some areas. If want to carry on there is also a cave for a short exploration. Lots of parking, only a couple of picnic tables. Restrooms are available.

History, nature's beauty, and cool old buildings, what's not to love? We need to preserve this, restore the buildings and open them up to the future generations for knowledge and pleasure.

Nothing special unless you like historical places. It was closed down for safety reasons when we were there.
