Beware. James and his son are not mechanics and they are not Transmission guys. They will only tell you this after they replace your transmission and find out that was not the problem. They are not qualified to diagnose Transmission issues. Even after they install a new one. They will not stand behind their work. After paying $2700 I find out my intermittent shifting issue was nothing more than a $100 dollar orielly computer that after a month they still could not diagnose.BEWARE. Go to a real transmission shop with real mechanics and Transmission techs.that will show the work.iReply to James.You don't stand behind your work or your word. You and your son give two different stories. You hide your work behind gates for a reason. You told me you diagnosed my transmission and I needed a new one. Then when that didn't work you told me you needed to borrow a tool to diagnose the same problem.I have seen your antique phone booth in your office..You stole $2700 from me. The truck had the exact same issue after you kept it for over a month when I brought it back. . Charging me to fix a problem and giving the truck back with the exact same issue is not standing behind your work.You were unable to diagnose it and made no effort to make it right .interesting how all of you bad reviews are fake according to you.

Whoever answered my phone call at the 790 number Shady unprofessional character for whatever reason my phone number may have came out scammer is what he claims the funny part is it's a brand new phone number no more than 2 weeks old the sad part is he continued to talk business and then went on a rant Anna continue to reassure him that wasn't the case and you hung up on me and I was wanting to provide two services with them and this gentleman for decided to choose his actions I'll go into the store as well present myself verify my identity and I was human being so on and so forth and shame on the induvidual. Dum man Shady characteristics. I was on bluetooth too so I an not the only person to hear my conversation... now I will say I have been into the office and spoke to people before if you want to call it an office but that's not the point that simply how it is laid out the point is the employees at the office area on property were kind when I went in whoever I spoke to on the phone this character it blows my mind it truly does the conversation I have I so hope to everything that this company can provide the conversation back and post it for you all to listen to all right well and it'll be taken off pretty quickly

Great father and son team the price was exactly what they quoted it was done within 48 hours and now it shifts like it did in 1995 when I drove it off the dealership lot James Jr what a guy I told him I had to take the bus to come pick my truck up he wouldn't hear of it so he drove all the way across town and pick me up so thank you James Sr James Jr and all the great mechanics and I believe he gave me a little extra for no charge

They got my back on the road and back across country. A 4l60e replacement by J&R got me from AZ to WA. They were willing to listen to my concerns and made sure I was set after 200 miles of test driving. 1yr warranty or 12k miles for mine and a fair price. This is what they do.

I had a 4L60E pulled, remanufactured to factory specs, and installed back into my Chevy Astro 4x4 in 26 hours after I dropped it off at J&R. The price I paid for the job was astounding, and I actually had to have him repeat himself because it was so much lower than what I was expecting. Every crate transmission I had been quoted on before talking to James was barely less than the price of the whole job at J&R, pulled, reman'd, installed, and they all had 20-30 day lead times before shipping which would have been several hundred dollars on top of the sale price. The quoted sale prices also did not include gaskets or fluid or hardware or anything, plus the core charges were $250-400 at each vendor and I'd have had to pay to ship it back to get the core charge back. On top of it all, I'd have had to do all the work myself. These guys saved me literally hundreds and hundreds of dollars plus hours of blood, sweat and tears from doing the job myself. They even threw on a deep pan with a drain plug without charging me any extra so now my transmission will run cooler with the higher fluid volume and draining the fluid will be much easier.After the install, I noticed the rear of the transmission assembly was wet with fluid after a drive to Phoenix and back. It looked like the extension housing gasket was defective from the factory, no harm, no foul(these things happen. sometimes a bad gasket rolls off the manufacturing line, and there's no telling until you see a leak on a job that was done perfectly). I'd only lost about a quart of fluid before I noticed it so I topped it off and drove it over in the morning. I left it with them to take a look, and it turns out there were some hairline cracks in the rear housing of the NP233c 4x4 transfer case, a part they hadn't touched beyond removing and installing it. The son had it all sorted out with parts on hand in less than two days. The price I paid for the parts and labor was astounding again. The whole assembly is dry as a bone now, and I'm confident that with regular fluid and filter changes that this transmission will outlast the engine.It's a father and son team plus a very small crew during the day, and they have two techs that do rebuilds on the nightshift. Despite the limited hands on deck they had all my needs sorted out with ludicrously short turnaround times, and every time I was on site there were people constantly dropping off and picking up vehicles. They really are astoundingly productive, and they do great work. I'll be singing their praises for as long as people will listen.

Family owned business. They are very friendly and helpful. James will help out anyone he can and goes above and beyond to help someone in need and the community!! I have a 2011 Honda Pilot and if there is an issue with the transmission this is the place I would trust to care for it. I know they would be friendly, honest, and reasonable.

Great people to work with! I am a snowbird and had a total transmission failure in my 2009 Chevy HHR. James had it towed to his shop and stored it for 3 months. The used transmission that he found also failed and he wasn't going to charge me anything!! He said that he wished he had never seen it. The total bill was $0 for towing, storage and labor!! I found another shop who did fix it. James is a remarkable guy and the customer service is first rate. I did tip him $100, which was probably not enough!! Thanks again!

Had been dealing with a previous mechanic. Took about 1 month and he ended up replacing the transmission and when i picked up the car something popped and liquid spilled everywhere .. Car became undrivable. I called James at J&R and he figured everything out for me. He got the towing company to pick up car, took it his shop fixed the issue. James was outstanding to work with. My sons truck was down for 3 weeks unable to locate a rare transfercase. James worked his magic and located one and had the truck fixed in less than a week. These guys were $4000 les than Aamco. Did an Outstanding job on our 1996 Toyota Avalon. This week taking my 1990 F250 5.8 V-8 5 sp. can't wait to get it back, what a beautiful classic regular cab 4x4 longbed. I highly recommend these guys, son's usually too busy to answer the phone, but the father always does. MJSR

James the owner is a dying breed in a town like Tucson, that's just being honest.I came to find this place when I was faced with a situation where my move back home to the Midwest meant I had to store a 4x4 truck for a month or so, which actually turned into an entire summer before I made it back just this month to get my truck.The no BS monthly fee is the best you'll find in town, and the fact that there's been zero thefts from his yard in 30yrs is something to be said for in midtown Tucson.. I showed up to a truck with a dead battery and flat tire, and received help with getting on the road that was greatly appreciated. Just got to say that all the choices I had to make that went along with this move, the one of deciding to store with J&R transmission wasn't one I regret.Thanks for the help guys, truly appreciatedJohn H
