Just a great locally-owned auto machine shop. Andy and company took care of my Mercruiser boat engine and did an awesome job. They completed the job in short order, even though it was right in the middle of the holidays. I'll never take my business anywhere else. The engine runs fantastic.

This is my long-term review of the business. The initial contract was to refresh a well-running 5.7 LS1 moving a 2001 Pontiac Firebird Formula. It has been used about 35,000 miles since the "refresh" in about 6 years. The engine was running smooth, and not a drop of oil was missing during the 3000-mile oil changes. It did have a little ticking noice when started, but would go away when up to temperature. Usual piston slap. It did have 198,000 milesInitially, when I got it back and installed it in the car, the engine had no oil pressure. I bore-scoped it, and it seemed like the barbell was missing. Removed the engine and took it back to Baker's. It was confirmed that the barbell was missing and not allowing the engine to build up oil pressure. The barbell was installed, and I was assured that there was no engine damage. I was reimbursed $400.00 for the installation, removal, and then reinstall. Fair enough in my book. For the first year and 5,000 miles, almost everything was ok. I had a dancing oil-presure gauge. I suspected a connecting rod bearing out of round. I also had a small knock on the engine. I dismissed the knock as piston slap as I had no performance issue. Engine oil consumption started, at the beginning was light, maybe .5 quart per 1000, not too bad as I was outside of the 12000 or 1 year warranty.I don't know if his shop assistant put my engine together, but it was not good. Now I am at 1 quart per 800, the knock is consistent, and at all speeds. The catalytic converter has been contaminated and will need replacing. He did tell me at the beginning that he likes 350 engines better than the LS platform. That should have been a red-flagI am currently looking for a replacement engine. A refresh killed my engine and I paid $4,000 to have it murdered. It only lasted me 35,000 miles.I am not bitter as I should have researched a little more, but if you are on the verge of using Baker's I hope this helps make an informed decision. I might be one-of, and everyone else has a great experience. I gave it two stars because the engine is still running. (Not good, but running)

Hard to get a hold of. When I finally do. The person said they were closed. Couldn't help me. I keep looking.

Talk about experience and execution. I have had several race engines built over the years at other shops. New to Tucson and needed a small block chevy street engine 4 bolt block and crank machined. Received advice from Andy & Dan on build package. Engine now built. Clearances and fit were dead on. Extremely fair pricing. Highly recommend this shop. Six stars.Service: Motor building

I was referred to them by a friend of mine. Not the most customer friendly on the phone, but then again I expect a machinist not a receptionist. Took my cylinder head in to get resurfaced, the next day I was called up and given some information about a couple other things I might need, very trustworthy, showed me exactly what was wrong. The work is phenomenal, resurfaced, valve grind, installed my new camshaft and valve seals, also cleaned up the whole head for me and still had the best price in town!

They might not be the most personable over the phone, but don't let that deter you. These guys handle business! They do great work, at a reasonable price, and get it done in a timely manner. I own a shop nearby and they always come through for me with press/machine work.

I had a motor that was built in Phoenix and to say the least, it was in bad condition. Andy was very helpful. He completed an inspection, check tolerances, and repaired the damage... I highly recommend them! Thanks guys!

Too much to list. Baker's rebuilt my engine (Ford 460) and had blow by right after start up. Initially tried blaming me for washing the cylinders then told me to keep running it to break in the rings. After maybe an hour of total run time, number 3 cylinder melted a spark plug and scored the cylinder wall. To recoup part of my losses I let him rebuild it a second time which upon picking up the engine, made me sign that there was no longer a warranty. At first start up to get it tuned it bent both intake and exhaust push rods on number 6 cylinder. Both times the engine was at his shop he promised completion dates which he did not deliver on. This is just a few of a long list of derogatory remarks I have for this machine shop.

Bakers rebuilt a 1970 383 for me for a restoration I was doing and their skill set, attention to detail and friendliness could not have been to a higher standard, they will take care of you like family, they have the knowledge to advise you and the equipment to perform any task, will use them again on my next build, absolutely highly recommend, J. Ruined one of my customers motors twice in a row due to negligence. Did not refund; did not fix. Would rate zero if I could. Wasted the time and money of my customer and of mine personally since I had to R&R the motor for a discounted rate.
