I choose to stay here for self quarantining after a trip that put my mother at risk. They were extremely helpful and kind. There isn't much in the room for amenities, but the price couldn't be beat. The restaurant and bar below the rooms was lively and filled with locals and history from my younger years. A local place with historic past to lay your head down off the road and have a bite and a brew.

I have never stayed at the hotel. The location is ok. If you are head into Wasilla towards Fredmyer, it's easy to get to, but if you are headed towards Walmart, it can be difficult to get across traffic. They have pretty good food and decent cocktails. I like their skillets the most.Food & drinks: Decent food. Good cocktails

I was really torn about how to rate this establishment. My experience here had some pretty extreme up and downs. We arrived at the hotel very early in the morning because there had been a flood issue at the Airbnb that we were booked at and we had to leave suddenly at around 5:00 a.m.. they were incredibly accommodating and had an available room that they let us check into right away so we could get a few more hours should I as we had had an interesting night dealing with said water issues. The next afternoon we went into Anchorage to do some shopping and decided that we should stay one more night, we called the hotel and they said they were more than happy to extend us without issue and we could just pay the balance ( this was the same $amount as the deposit we had left in cash ) Upon returning to the hotel that afternoon. Because of a miscommunication I believed that my fiance had stopped at the bar and paid the additional amount when he headed out that afternoon. I was in the shower that evening around 5:00 p.m. when someone came banging on the door they were from downstairs and let me know that he had not paid, I was mortified told them that I would finish my shower and be right down. They proceeded to knock on the door again every 5 minutes while I was trying to rinse off and throw clothes on because the downstairs area/ front desk is a very public area inside of the bar. It took 15 minutes from first knock to me coming downstairs, keep in mind this entire time they have had our deposit to cover this stay and had agreed for us to pay in the afternoon, admittedly we were about 3 hours behind schedule. When I went down to speak to the manager who had requested to speak to me in person, I was informed that they would be charging me a $20 an hour fee, meaning they were keeping my deposit for no reason, and that she didn't want my money for that night but I was to pack my things and get off the property. I was absolutely shocked and Blown Away. What kind of management is this? She couldn't have been much older than early twenties, I'm certain she had a reason for thinking this was the best course of action.. but the hotel was not booked, we weren't an issue, and we were not skating them.. I received zero understanding, zero communication, and honestly what I would consider to be some of the rudest treatment I've ever experienced from that manager. The poor guy from the bar that she sent to my room was quite sweet, as was every other person that I came in contact with that stay. The restaurant staff was Top Notch and the food we ordered was absolutely delicious. So much to say I will potentially give this place another shot when I'm next in need of a quick room for a nap and a shower on the go, but God forbid you actually need customer service from their management.

Ordered the stuffed French toast. It has gone up a ton over the years but I thought I d treat myself. The menu says any meat. I ordered the reindeer sausage and they charged me 2.50 extra. When I brought this up to the manager she wanted to argue about it. My wife and I both ordered this meal and they only credited one. Attempted to talk to the waitress after and she ignored me. This used to be one of my favorite places to eat in Wasilla. Won t be going back for a long time.

Food is sub par, and when ordering a bacon cheeseburger, the burger was super dry. It came with about 10 french fries. It looked like a child's plate. It seems like a greasy spoon meets a bar. The service was good the girl was attentive but not very cognitive of children sitting at the table and would put hot food right in front of them for little hands to grab.Since moving here I've been wanting to go there and try the food, and wish I just stayed away wondering if their sign "big juicy steaks" was real and just let it remain one of life's mysteries!

Went here for breakfast. They were quite busy but everyone seemed very unorganized. We sat at the bar and our meal took over and hour to receive. While waiting we watched the cooks and waiters hustle around. Plates were being checked by hand to make sure everything was warm and if not it was put in the microwave. It did not seem to be a sanitary environment and their was many food health concerns.High quality pricing but low quality food!

Been here a few times and always order a ribeye a la carte because of food sensitivities. Never had an issue until yesterday. Sent it back first time because I can't do seasonings. Cook told server he didn't add any but admitted to not cleaning the grill. Sent it back again second time because it was overdone. Third time it tasted a little spoiled and sure enough, spent the rest of the day sick. Never again. Server was great, though.

I go here quite often for breakfast. Their selection is top notch and I haven't had a bad meal. The servers are excellent and you will never feel like they are too busy for you. As a night shift person, the thing appreciate most is being able to grab a cocktail or beer on my way home to get some sleep. If you're looking for a solid breakfast check out this spot!

Good comfort food, good beverage selection, and good service. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE PASTRAMI BACONATOR BURGER !! They changed the name of the sandwich on the menu. But it's truly grubbin'!!Nearby activities: Shopping and downtown Wasilla are within walking distance.

The service here is usually pretty good. I do appreciate the sequins the servers wear. The menu is overpriced for what you get.I went here for the last time a few days ago. Coffee was cold, and $24 including a tip is far too much for a single reindeer sausage, coffee, two eggs, and a small portion of unseasoned, uncrispy hashbrowns. Also I have ordered to go food from here and found hair in it.Sorry Windbreak, but you need to increase the quality and portions, or lower your prices.

Decided to give the place a try since there were so many mixed reviews. Kinda confusing at first as it screams Trout House on the outside but inside its Windbreaker. OkTable options are scrunched up on the walls which are not only tight and uncomfortable but very cold.4 of us ordered a variety of burgers which we were pleased with but I will note that my son ordered the burger that stated that cheese was "piled" on top. It wasn't. We'd call it a sprinkle of cheese. The fries though were absolutely delish! True perfection!Sadly, the meal was brought down by the waitress. Her whole vibe gave off a bad attitude. Not pleasant at all.We would probably go back for lunch

I ve passed the sign for Big Juicy Steaks many times meaning to try them and I finally did last week. The atmosphere is cozy even though it s dated and the seats are worn down to nearly no cushions. I ordered a Ribeye steak with Beef Stew and a Nacho for a shared appetizer. The nacho s were good, but I like anything with nacho cheese sauce, the beef stew had a strange sweet and spicy taste that I didn t think went well with stew, and the meat of my steak was SPOILED and smelt awful! Our waitress wasn t super friendly so I didn t feel like my complaint would be recognized. I do NOT recommend them and all our family agreed to never come back

I hadn't been in here since the mid 90's, until today. The food was just as good as the last time I was there. (Moved out and came back home)However, the skillet I ordered with the sauted onions in it? TOTALLY wiped my stomach out. I think it has to do with an easier skewed stomach, maybe? I guess we'd have heard if it was food poisoning, right?Awesome wait person, good food, just prepare yourself for waay too much food. Unless you can share?

I will leave my original review below my new one.Yesterday, when I went there with 4 other people, our bill was abnormally high (over $150). We have been coming here for several years, so I knew right away it was odd. Turns out when you add "prawns" to your salad, it is a single small prawn that they charge $3 for. Also, when they ramble off the meats that come with the breakfast, they neglected to say that there was an up charge for any of them. I can get past the upcharge for the sausage, but the single prawn on my salad was ridiculous. The last few years their prices have soared and their service has plummeted. I gave them an extra star for their bloody Mary's, but that will be the only thing we go there for anymore. The omelets and bloody Mary's are always the best! The potatoes that come with the omelets are not so great. Even so, it used to be a regular stop for us.

Terrible. Was suppose to be a 14 OZ. Prime Rib but not even close on either. $43 each for low grade dog food and we didn t even get a vegetable. We use to love going to this place for 40 years but it will be another 40 before I go back.

I always get the Halibut Fish and Chips. TODAY, for the first time in years of going there I tried a steak.Nice cut, cooked to requested heat and delicious. Our server was very kind and always left us smiling. It has always been a good experience at the windbreak cafe, today however was exceptional.

We went and had dinner and drinks in the lounge. The red leather like seats, the dim room, is a vibe we loved. Fun drink selection, friendly staff.

Offer awesome breakfasts, the wait staff is always pleasant. When we come to town, about 4 times a year, we always come to eat here at least once.

The Windbreak always has excellent food and a great atmosphere. The staff are friendly and try to meet your needs a soon as they can. Sometimes it's hard to flag someone down when they're very busy, and during their busy time they might need a couple extra servers. I definitely recommend the windbreak's bar side if you're looking for a warm comfortable feeling, and the other side if you're looking for a small cafe feel.We had the reindeer eggs benedict and stuffed French toast. Super delicious, highly recommend both. The home fries were a little crunchier than I like, but still good taste.

While visiting the area, this place was recommended for a good, affordable fish meal. We went in the really afternoon, and we were seated immediately. The service staff was very friendly. The food was excellent, and as a bonus, the kids really enjoyed it. I would urge visitors to the area to stop in and give it a try. I recommend the fish and chips.

The Chicken fried steak and country gravy were very good, however the hash browns didn't taste like they were cooked to order, probably reheated, they had stale edges and were cold in the middle. The ambiance leaves something to be desired. The booths and tables need a good wipe down and most of the seating seems to be in some state of disrepair.

Great atmosphere, clean, great service. We ate in the lounge and enjoyed the game and band playing on at least four flat screen monitors. We enjoyed the Philly and chicken strips, but the soup starter was worth the whole ticket!

Had the Rib eye and it was fine. Cooked according to my request, but maybe a little underseasoned. I like fries and they were some of the best fries I have had. Atmosphere was fine, and the service was great. A little pricey, but I really enjoyed the experience overall. I will be going back when I can.
