I honestly have mixed feelings about this review & was hesitant to write it, because they did do a lot of work, but honestly it's been a few weeks since my last dealings with Hutchings and honestly? I am still disappointed. So to give some context, I am a Medical and Healthcare worker & I am in cancer remission. I have a very specific budget because of my medical bills & had clarified at the start that I only wanted the main issue of my car dealt with & did not require anything else done. I knew there were some basic maintenance things that needed done such as the oil, etc. But I am capable of changing that myself & knew it would cost more, so I planned to give my car a full check once this one issue was resolved. I did not want anything else taken care of except for the part of the car that was causing the non-starting issue & was under the impression that the crew understood that. I cannot say they didn't do a good job, but they disregarded my wishes & the lack of communication wound up disrupting my entire budget plan.My car died suddenly one morning and I had no one who could help me get the car to my preferred shop for some time. While researching that issue, I went ahead & bought a diagnostic reader and triple checked the code at another shop & was reassured that it was correct, ordered a sourced part to replace what I believed to be the damaged part of the engine, but the computer chip in the EOS reader would have to be recalibrated as it had been used previously in a different car, and I was promised that Hutchings could do this.Come to find out they found another issue entirely that was actually the issue, and while they did contact me about the incorrect code and sourced the new parts, they did not express that they were going to do other work on my car, and did not get my permission for that. I heard very little about the progress that was being made, what they were doing exactly, which was worrisome enough that I probably started to be that customer anyone whom has ever worked retail hates and called in several times to ask for an update because I just was not getting clarification. My car is how I get to & from my job, & I have an average of 70 patients per day who rely on me to be there for them, and the cost of getting a cab or covering my neighbor's gas for the extra mileage out of her way was not helping my budget.Fast forwarding to several weeks in, and mind you, that actually was a decent time frame with all the town desperate to get their winter tires on, that is a fair point to them, I get a call that my car is ready. A relative gives me a ride into town, & he walks in with me out of curiosity. I'm given the bill and I freeze because it is over 2000 dollars, a far cry from the 500 to 600 dollars I had anticipated as 02 sensors are often cheaper than the part I had initially sourced, even if they are called in by the shop. They did everything that I had asked not to be done, that I was prepared to take care of, & I had just paid my medical bills for my cancer treatment. And only then am I informed they do not do payment plans even though I specified I could not pay for anything but one thing-the part causing my car to shut down and could handle the rest.I guess the secretary sensed my panic, because she called out one of the mechanics to explain everything, & my relative sensed me having an anxiety attack as he took over so I could just have a moment to calculate what this was going to set me back on, & she ignored me completely through most of the conversation when I was able to calm down and step back in, even deferring to my car as "his vehicle" even though this was his first time in or even speaking with her. My relative was willing to cover the part of the payment I could not cover & we agreed on a payment plan between us, and I paid for what I could. The woman was there to witness the entire exchange, but then asked how I would cover the rest, and my relative finally stepped in and told her to open up her ears and eyes. They do alright work, but do not listen to their customers.

Very helpful, even went to pick up a part from another dealer for me, even though they were swamped with phone calls and extra work from the long weekend of 4 July. Friendly and accomodating service even though I did not have an appointment. They gave me an appointment 2 hours after I stopped in. Thank you for the can do attitude. I think I found my vehicle maintenance folks!

Although the service guys went out of their way and were very kind, I immediately started having problems with my vehicle after having them replace the rear compressor. I noticed it ran ALL of the time and never shut off. When we got back down to the lower 48 I took it RIGHT in to another chevy dealer and told them what had been going on. I was told it was "normal" for it to run for a bit after starting my vehicle.. I took it back about a month later, still was told the same thing. I KNEW SOMETHING WAS NOT RIGHT. It is now at another chevy dealer as it no longer works at all. when they looked at it I was told it was a very cheap after market product with a very strange connection that had been "made" to fit. When I called Hutchings I spoke with Linda, I am sure she is a nice woman, however maybe overworked? she basically called me a liar and was very rude to me. I explained had I known they were putting an after market product that was not made for my truck, I would not have done it. I did not ask for any kind of partial refund or anything. Her rudness spoke volumes, when we are back in AK I will probably NOT give them my business on this fact alone! ALWAYS ASK IF THEY ARE USING GM PARTS!!!!

I would never recommend this facility of Hutchings Auto Spa Quick Lube to have my oil changed or any other work done on my vehicle after having been treated in such an ill manner by the after noon evening shift supervisor. On August 16, 2016 at 4:34 in the afternoon, I pulled into Hutchings Auto Spa Quick Lube to get an oil change before starting my drive back home after having been fishing in Soldotna for four weeks. As I pulled in I was directed to the what would be the next available bay. While waiting I collected some trash from my vehicle and stepped a foot into the garage and put the trash into a trash can. An older man I assume the shop foreman yelled at me for stepping into the shop to deposit trash and said to get out. Didn t think much of it but stepped out after depositing trash. I was shortly directed into the bay, the older man was doing the service on my vehicle. He asked for my vehicle information to be entered into the computer. I gave him the millage of 77,852. He entered it in and I told him I would like the new sticker to read 81,000. He said he would add 3,000 miles to the existing millage reading of 77,852. I told him that was not how I wanted the sticker to read, but wanted it as 81,000. He then came over to my vehicle opened the door reached inside and started to turn on lights, emergency flashers. I asked what he was doing just reaching into my vehicle without telling me what was going on or asking permission. He said this is a full service oil change and he was checking lights. I said not unless you ask if you can get into my vehicle. He then read off the the computer the manfucatures recommended oil and number of quarts required. That said 10/20, and seven quarts. He never asked if 10/20 is what I ran, I said 10/30, he said 10/20 is what is recommended by the manufacture, and instructed his people to put that in. He again attempted to reach into my vehicle to turn off the lights and I instructed him not to, that I would do it. He said he was going to check my battery voltage to make sure I wouldn t have to be jumped or pushed out of his garage. I told him not to bother. By now we are in a yelling match over almost everything. I said if you had not already dropped my oil I would leave, he said If the oil had not been dropped, he would tell me to leave. I told him what a complete jerk he was (I understand I can t use the swear words I told him he was on Yelp) and told him his skills of dealing with the public left a great deal to be improved on where he was in a service business. He said he would get the last word in in this argument. He told me how modern and civilized Alaska was, and that where I was from in Utah was obvioualy not. I said I have never gone through the hassles at home where a custom has some say in what is done to his vehicle as I have done in his business back home and would never come here in future visits and would tell others not to do so, given the opportunity. He said that was great because he would never accept me as a customer again. When he had one of his young men print up the millage tag to go on the windshield, it was printed up as 80,852. I told the young man to go back and reprint the sticker up as 81,000 as I had requested 81,000. He said ok, came back and had hand written it in on the sticker. He asked if that would suffice. The look on his face said he didn t dare do it differently. I let it go and said yes. As I was pulling out I told the young men in that shop there had to be a better place to work than being here and putting up with this complete jerk of a supervisor.
