Overall, a great rental experience. If you're intending to rent in Fairbanks, I'd recommend using them.Pre-booking: Extremely clear with instructions and well organised online paper-work. One of the reasons I selected them was because their terms included "no restrictions for gravel road travel" since most standard rental car companies do not allow renters to drive on gravel roads and Alaskan roads can be - well, unpredictable. :)Pickup: Was outside of their operating hours, but they had the car parked and ready for us with clear instructions for pickup. Seamless, well co-ordinated pickup.Vehicle Quality: New Jeep Wrangler, Low kms (<8K), well maintained, there was a small crack on the windshield when I picked it up, was able to reach them to clarify and they were clear that it was documented already and would not be attributed to my rental. Extremely smooth drive.Drop-off: Dropped the car off at the agency, they went the extra mile to drop us back at our hotel as a courtesy.Thank you for a great experience, folks!

This company is absolutely un-American and could careless for the safety of their customers. This summer, I attended a Military Veterans' caribou hunting trip hosted by a non-profit organization. We used Alaska 4x4 to rent a transport vehicle to get us up and back down the Haul Road. All was well until our return trip from the Arctic when the engine siezed up and died randomly without any warning or check engine light. We never took the van off road. We never drove in a negligent or reckless manner. We never struck any objects. This was simply a mechanical failure that left 10 US Military Veterans stranded above the Arctic Circle with a storm bearing down. We used satellite communication devices to get ahold of Alaska 4x4. Their first reaction to our call for help was to inform us we were going to be over due returning their van as a result of our misfortune. It should have been an immediate show of compassion for our circumstances. It took 19 hours for Alaska 4xr to finally send a tow and replacement vehicle. They were unorganized, unfriendly, and unconcerned for our safety. The tow driver they sent was a rude Russian fella who tried to charge us more for his services as if we were in some 3rd world country. It was an argument the whole time, and several of us were forced to hitch hike back to Fairbanks.After all of this, they had the nerve to charge the non-profit for the massive repair bills and accused us of lying about how the vehicle was being driven. They are horrible people who lie, leave humans beings stranded in remote places with no concern for their safety, and then accuse our nation's veterans of lying for no good reason.BOYCOTT these unpatriotic jerks! Unbelievable!

We were glad to find Alaska 4x4 Rentals on many different levels. The online booking through their website made the whole process very easy. Their customer service number connects you with a live, knowledgeable, and professional person on the premise that can answer any questions you may have in a timely manner. When picking up our vehicle, we were upgraded at no extra charge and the representative was very helpful with information on driving in the current conditions. They are located in the Fairbanks airport which made picking up and dropping off so easy. We were shocked to see all the corporate investment in the area which I'm sure is having a negative effect on the locally owned businesses. Alaska 4x4 Rentals is a locally owned co. which was a huge bonus for using them. Please give them a try before going with one of the big corporations. I highly recommend this co.

Rental pickup process was great!The vehicle was great (4 door 4x4 Willie s Jeep Wrangler)! The return process was so easy!The whole experience was great! One of the easiest best vehicle rentals I ve done, and I ve rented a lot of vehicles!

We were a bit uncertain renting a car from here as we had read the mixed reviews but our experience with them has been amazing! We reserved a car a couple of days before we arrived in Fairbanks and did not have any issues getting a car even though we were delayed with our arrival flight. They double checked what car we wanted and ended up offering us a cheaper option than what we had originally booked. Our car was brilliant and could handle all the roads here even in snowy and icy conditions. Pickup and drop off was seamless and very easy. Would definitely recommend renting a car from here!

It was Thanksgiving day and they were opened! They went out of their way to "dig" a rental for me. It was buried in snow. The check in was easy and friendly. The return was exceptional, they were going to take me to the airport but I don't fly out till the next day so the nice guy took me back to my hotel instead! Price is affordable too! Please use them for all your Alaska rental needs!

Pickup and dropoff experience are both smooth, even during Christmas holidays. The vehicle is equipped with studded winter tires and the condition is really good. Except that they changed the vehicle twice before I picked it up (from wrangler to chevy then to cherokee), but it s adequate for the winter weather. I strongly recommend to check the car carefully, since there was an obvious dent that wasn t noted on the contract when I picked it up.

The check out process and car itself was great and worked as expected. But my god, the pickup took us almost 40 minutes past the scheduled pickup time. I don t know if we just got unlucky and went during someone s lunch break but I d rather go with the big rental brands next time and save myself the trouble. My friend who used Avis got their car pretty quickly and ended up waiting for us.

Locally owned business but they decided out of the blues not rent to local residents. What is going on? Made reservations about 6 months in advance. Recently got a call that they will no longer rent it to locals unless we provide our insurance information . We complied but they cancelled our reservation for the reason that they contracted their vehicles to a big group. 4x4 did not exert any effort to assist us in looking for a new reservation. We were just dropped like a fly. What kind of business is this? NOT WORTH supporting even if they are locally owned.

Discriminatory - I tried to reserve vehicle with this company for work trip in Fairbanks, they immediately called me and informed me that they do not rent vehicles to "locals". Confused, I said that I live in Anchorage and that is why I needed a rental vehicle when flying into Fairbanks.. the woman on the phone said it was a company policy for all Alaskans and because my phone number was a "907" area code they would have to cancel my reservation. Such a bizarre call and they even advertise a 10% discount for residents on their website. Company has "Alaska" in its name but doesn't rent to the people who actually live in this state. Don't support this company.

We had an awesome experience at Alaska 4x4 Rentals Fairbanks! The staff was friendly and efficient, especially TJ Waldron. TJ volunteered his services to transport us to and from our bed and breakfast accommodations on his own time to ensure that we did not have to wait for an overdue vehicle. TJ s concern for our well being after a red-eye flight into Fairbanks went far and above our expectations. We will definitely utilize Alaska 4x4 Rentals during our next visit to Fairbanks, Alaska!

Rented a car multiple days in advance for our trip. We get to the airport at 2 in the morning and sleep here for 6 hours, thinking that when they open at 8, we could pick up our car and get out of the airport. 8 comes around so we head over to pick up our vehicle that we reserved, and we re told that they actually don t have any cars at all for the next 3 days, and now every other car rental spot is out of vehicles. They told us that their website is saying they have cars available, when they actually do not. You think it would be easy to update their website and say that no vehicles are available, as I m writing this, they are still showing those vehicles to rent on their website. While we ve been trying to sort this out, we ve overheard them make many calls to others saying the same thing that was told to my brother and I. Definitely would not recommend renting from here.

We booked the rental car in Jan 15th and got confirmation.However, we got phone call Feb 16th mentioned car rental out of stock. It is one day before our flight.It is worst experience we have and we have to book car in tight timeline. All cars have been booked by that time in other rentals.It would be great if you can give that info earlier instead of one day.I will never be able to trust this rental place.

(Fairbanks, AK) Everything went smooth. Good and courteous service. The rental vehicle was clean. I made a late booking just the night before and the vehicle was ready by 9:00am when I arrived. I was given a lift to the airport after dropping off rental vehicle. Final charges are exactly the same as shown in the reservation email.

Rented a Jeep Cherokee for a week the last full week of March. Vehicle was nice, clean, and had low miles.Customer service was lacking.Used my Amex and when the woman ran it when I got there she said it was declined and handed me the card back. I was a little dumbfounded and proceeded to call the credit card company. After numerous prompts and finally talking to an agent they explained the cvv code was not entered correctly and that s why it was declined. I got off the phone and told the woman at the desk that she used the wrong cvv code. She ran it again and said okay, that worked . No apology, no anything.Next issue was I got an email for a contract on the rental which I digitally signed and sent back. That amount was for a total of $477..17 When I got there and she printed out a new contract the amount was for $ 637.03.I asked about it and she said that it s an open contract and that s just how it works That was the best explanation I could get.I also asked about their military discount when booking and when at the counter. She said they would take care of it. When I returned the car and asked again about it, the lady at the desk said they were in the middle of changing systems and they would do it once that was done. A week later and no credit back on my card yet.My other complaint is we got stuck when we slid on ice coming down a steep road and 2 wheels got buried in snow. The tow hook in the Jeep was missing. We had no way to safely hook a rope to it to have someone pull us out. I know that s an easy oversight but in an Alaskan winter the tow hook should be something that s on their checklist, like the extension cord for plugging in or an ice scraper is.Not a bad experience overall, they just need to work on their customer service a bit and sort out their pricing changes on the fly with no explanation.

Christian and team were amazing! The best customer service! GMC Yukon XL SUV was very clean and comfortable. Pick up is offsite, but they had a shuttle waiting for me when I arrived at FAI. Absolutely recommend Alaska 4x4 rentals in Fairbanks.

Best car rental ever! It was a no brainer start to finish. Just great customer service and always ready with an answer to my questions. The staff is so courteous too. I really felt comfortable. Pick up, no problem. Drop off, no hassle. Next trip to Fairbanks I ll be calling on Alaska 4x4 for my wheels. Please support local businesses. They ve earned it.

Booked it almost a month before my trip. Got a phone call two weeks later saying their car got in an accident, and they will switch wrangler that I booked to a suv. Another phone call the day before the reserved date saying since I made a reservation yesterday(?), they don t have any vehicle left because they sold it. I LITERALLY BOOKED IT A MONTH BEFORE MY TRIP. Ruined my whole trip. If you don t want your plan to get ruined, do not book a car from this place.

The employees on the phone were very nice but every time I spoke to them I told them that I wanted the back seat removed since it was a 15 passenger van and we only had 10 people. They assured me that they would take it out but they did not!! Also, the paperwork I received and the license plate did not match but the code to the lockbox worked so we took it!! Also, you need to repair the bottom side driver s side mirror. As a former bus driver I use the side mirrors all the time!! Overall it was a good experience and I m sure I would be a repeat customer. I arrived promptly at 8 am to pick up my rental car, expecting a quick process. Unfortunately, it took a full hour for them to locate the vehicle. To add to the frustration, when the car finally arrived, it was the wrong one. This lack of efficiency and the mix-up with the car type made the experience extremely inconvenient.

DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY, horrible customer service, by the staff and the manager, you will never get your recipe on time (still waiting) and when you call either no one awnser or they give you an excuse (we still working on it after 10 days).Finally got my receipt 23 days later the staff that awnser the phone this time was really polite professional and proficient got my receipt in 1min. Management did reach out but didn't get me what i need it just reassure that they apologized for the inconvenience.

Stephanie and Chassady are amazing and super professional. My car was clean and warm when I got in it. They made sure all my questions were answered and even recommended restaurants and sights to see. 10 out of 10 I would recommend to everyone.

I was charged $434 for a punctured tyre a week after I dropped off the car. I already had the tyre repaired by a reputable car garage prior to dropping the car off. When I explained the situation to Alaska 4x4 customer service team and asked for a full refund they refused to give me my money back. Not the best experience using these guys as a regular car renter and traveller from UK.I personally would not recommend using this company for a car rental in Alaska. Shocking after sales service and slow to get things done.

Rented from the Anchorage airport and drove to Fairbanks for our final destination. We reserved a small SUV, but when arriving in Anchorage, they offered a considerable upgrade to a full sized extended cab Dodge Pickup with Topper Cap in the back for no additional cost.The cap worked out great as we stored fishing poles and equipment back there and felt comfortable leaving them in there as the topper locked. The truck had just over 7,000 miles on it and was great for many trips down the Denali Hwy for various stops for fishing.The staff in Anchorage and Fairbanks were great! All in all I'd rent with them again! This was my 4th trip to Alaska and my first time using Alaska 4x4 Rentals. Thank you again to the staff at both locations!

I was literally called 10 minutes before I was supposed to pick up my rental and told they were booked. Incredibly frustrating so this affects the rest of our plans. Why in the world would a reservation be allowed to be made when they had nothing available. I would never rent from them or even attempt to rent from them again!

I rented a 2021 Ford Bronco. The checkin process was quick and seamless, the staff are ALL amazing, upbeat and willing to make your rental experience a positive one. The vehicles are clean, well maintained and a pleasure to drive. I highly recommend Alaska 4x4 for any rental needs off-road, in town or anywhere in Alaska.
