Mike is not a truthful person. My son took his truck in to have the transmission checked and do a fluid change because of unsmooth shifting. Mike informed him that he did change the fluid but there was no problem with his transmission and that he needed his catalytic converters replaced. They even looked at catalytic converter costs in the shop when he picked the truck up. A few days later my son was driving and smoke started coming out from underneath the truck. He took it back to Mike and was told that the leak was caused by a couple of loose bolts that were difficult to tighten. He also told him that he needed a transmission rebuild. Which was incredulous considering Mike had just told him that the transmission was fine and it was the catalytic converters causing the problem,Mike refused to say how or why the bolts were loose or consider the possibility that they contributed to the transmission problem. He proceeded to tell us to go to court, he would win and that we were just like his other lower socioeconomic customers that wanted something for free .quite sure we knew exactly what he was implying by lower socioeconomic customers My son then took the truck to a Ford dealership and they told him the transmission had almost 2 quarts too much fluid in it. The rep told us that having that much overfill of transmission fluid certainly didn t help the transmission. My son then contacted AAMCO corporate and although they listened, they claim they can t do anything because Mike is a franchise owned shop. That is absurd, and AAMCO corporate went even further by implying that my son added the extra fluid in the transmission he doesn t know how to do that and not even sure it can be done without taking it to a shop to begin with.Mike will undoubtedly deny this description but there is a recording. AAMCO corporate knows this but apparently we lower socioeconomic customers don t mean much to this company and their franchise owners.

I am forever grateful for the kind and professional service of Mike and his team at AAMCO. They were able to quickly and accurately diagnose the issue with my car. What really stood out to me was given that the part was not readily available close by Mike was willing to get in his personal vehicle and drive to Gardendale to pick up the part, ensuring I could get back on the road safely same day, you don t see customer service of that caliber these days. If you are in the Irondale or surrounding area please give this AAMCO try!

They told me they couldn't rebuild my transmission because they couldn't get parts for it because of the age of the vehicle. Said they could put a reman in for $3100. So I took the vehicle to Ron Hatcher's Transmission and he rebuilt it for $1500. Weird how Ron was able to get the parts but I'm thankful and it's running great.

My experience with AAMCO was excellent. I brought my Nissan Murano in for a diagnostic, fully anticipating that I would need to replace the transmission or get a new vehicle. Instead, they were able to identify that the problem was a minor issue with the engine. The parts needed for repair were available within 24 hrs and the work was completed within another 24 hrs. The cost for the engine repair was about what I would ve had to pay for a new transmission. If that wasn t enough, AAMCO went above and beyond by taking my car to the tire shop nearby where they removed a nail from the front right tire and put air in the low tires all at no charge. My car has gone from ready to scrap to ready to drive in a short 48 hours and I couldn t be happier with the experience from start to finish!Services: Auto engine diagnostic, Engine repair

Although I didn't need any work done as of now, they were thorough in checking my car for issues and I appreciated them not trying to "create an issue" for money. Will be back in the future if needed.

Replaced torque converter, transmission fluid and filter on our company 2017 F150 6R80. Dealer quoted us $4900, these guys did it for $1800. Truck drives so much better and transmission is working properly now. Saved us over $3k, and customer service was top notch. I ll bring any vehicle here for transmission issues.

Second time here. My check engine light came on and I gave them a call. They said I could come right in and they had my vehicle up on the lift right away. They informed me about the check engine light and helped me determine where the new noise I was hearing was coming from. It turned out to be from the suspension work I just had done at another service center a couple weeks ago. Fastest, friendliest service in town! Customer for life!!Service: Auto engine diagnostic

The man that sits in the office and does all the inside work such as asking you what s wrong and giving you the prices. He was such a nice man and they are all about trying to help fix your car.

Very helpful staff. I called early to mid afternoon on a Friday (when most places probably would have fallen behind on work from that day or the entire week), explaining that I needed a quick diagnosis as to what's going on with my car, since my Carvana 7-day trial period would be ending that following Monday--so I could make a decision about repair if it's a minor issue or returning the car if it's a major one. I had barely parked my car at AAMCO when the guy came out with equipment ready to do a diagnostic. He also drove the car briefly to experience what I told him was going on. It ended up being a minor repair that Carvana was obviously willing to pay for---AAMCO took care of it right away and I was driving off a happy customer at 5:30. It was truly refreshing to experience a place that really listened to me and understood the time crunch I was under to make a decision about the car--and expedited my service as a result.Service: Auto engine diagnostic

The team at AAMCO in Irondale is professional and thorough. I had my son s vehicle towed to AAMCO because I wasn t sure what was wrong when it stopped working. They diagnosed a fuel line leak and identified a sensor that wasn t functioning properly. They had it fixed the same day they diagnosed the issue and he got his car back, running better than it had in years. I feel confident that he is driving a safer vehicle after their service and really appreciate the time they took to explain the car s issues. I ll be back!Services: General repairs & maintenance, Auto engine diagnostic, Engine repair

I was traveling through Birmingham on my way to Florida, and my transmission gave out. The tow truck company dropped off my car at AAMCO at about 8:30. The owner recognized my issue of being more than 600 miles from home, and immediately pulled my car in for a look. I needed a new transmission unit for my Nissan. One was in stock in Birmingham. The owner told me that they would try to get me back on the road the same day, but if not, they would come in the shop on Saturday (even though they are closed on Saturdays) to finish the job. The great news ... it was done by 4 p.m., and I was back on the road. The owners were so nice and friendly and took extra good care of me (brought me lunch from Milo's). I would highly recommend them for any transmission work in the Birmingham area.Service: Transmission

AMAZING!!! Super super fast turn around, my transmission went out on my truck. They were so transparent with the process entirely, and after all was said and done they made all the calls needed and out of a 5200.00$ invoice I was only out of pocket 100.00$ and the truck runs great! Highly recommend AMMCO IN IRONDALE!!!

This location will get no stars from from due to the simple fact that I took my car to get a simple scan to detect a small issue that my mechanic wasn't sure about and want a second opinion, well I got a call from the senior service manager stating that my car will no longer start up. after notifying him that I never experience that issue before they decide to keep my car for 11 hour with giving me any updates. Danial was very rude whenever I called and insist that I should pay him more money due to the fact that they are spending to much time on my car. I never ask them to remove nor replace any parts ( they tamper with my wires and change the bolt on my battier, all without my authorization) Danial went on to say come and pick my car up because he felt that I was being " sassy" I ask him was he going to correct his mistake he replied no, I should not never got sassy with him, On 24 of April 2019 @ 8:30 am I drove to the location in my car and on 25 of April 2019 I had to get a tow truck to bring my car home.

My daughter used this location to get her vehicle's transmission checked. They gave her a $2,500 estimate, which she couldn't afford. The manager asked her if she couldn't pay for the repairs or for the inspection, she could bring them the vehicle's title and they wouldn't charge her anything. I think that's very unprofessional and that shouldn't even be an option. If we can't pay for the repairs then let us deal with our own issues. Asking for the title is really not what was expected. Poor customer service.

Awesome experience. I was on my way to Starkville for a meeting and my truck broke down. The owner made it a priority to assess and fix my vehicle so that i could make it in time for my meeting. They were honest and quick with the repair. I would recommend them in a heartbeat

I dropped my vehicle off at he shop Apr 6th 2021. I was told it would be a 3 day diagnostic in order for my vehicle to act up since it wasn't anything that was consistent at the time. Well I called Apr 9th 2021 to see if they had experienced any of the issues I took it there for. Well, finally it did act up according to the description I gave them. Mr. Robert was a pleasure. Today, Apr 13th 2021 I pick my vehicle up and there is dirt all smeared on my car mats in which I didn't give my vehicle to them like that. I thought that was odd considering there are signs posted in the shop about sanitation charges that customers will incur due to covid so that was understandable (safety first!) Why aren't the employees using temporary floor mats? (the paper kind) well to get to me point. I took my vehicle to the car wash to clean it out. Upon me looking at my vehicle I realized there was large scratch running across my bumper that wasn't there prior to me dropping it off. My first thought was to talk to a car wash employee and have them rewind their surveillance back to be sure there machine did not cause the scratch. I was able to prove that the car wash was not the cause of the large damage. So, I called the shop back and Mr. Robert tired to act like perhaps they did nothing wrong when in fact they did. He stated he spoke to the technician that drove my vehicle and he recalls there not being a scratch so I requested to review surveillance video of there shop and was told it was down and Mr. Robert did prove me there was in fact none. I just find it odd and strange that with the large amount of cars on their lot there is no working surveillance. That means anything can happen to your car and there will be no video evidence. I just feel like my intelligence has been toyed with and I don't appreciate that at all. Mr. Robert tired to act like a customer doesn't have the right to be upset about their vehicle in which the manner it should be given back to them. I even showed him the picture evidence that the scratch was there prior to me entering the car wash. Everyone had amnesia when it was time to recount for a vehicle they had for an entire week. They are not willing to take responsibility of something they are at fault for. It almost makes me think this particular shop doesn't have insurance. SO BEWARE! Funny I went to the Irondale police Department to file a report and the Officer Caple was taking up for them because he "knows" the owner. I will be getting in contact with the BBB. This company should have working surveillance. There is about 100K worth of cars sitting on their lot. How ironic. At the end I was not satisfied with service. If this company is going to have INTERGRITY printed on their business cards they need to live by it. I will also be filing a complaint with their corporate office since franchises can't live up to the slogan!Service: Transmission

Mike the owner is very friendly . I originally took my car to AAMCO Irondale I thought the car was fixed but it continued to act the same way . I took it back he told me I wasn t putting enough gas in it, yesterday my car continued to act the same way and shut off with the car full of gas. I ended up taking it to two more transmission shops and they confirmed it is the transmission I appreciate Mike and AAMCO S effort though he s a friendly guy that does try.Service: General repairs & maintenance

I'm not sure, after a week of have my car back, that they didn't repair it properly. Daniel was cool about me paying a couple of days after it was done, but his vibe reminds me of a used car salesman. If I didn't think something is still wrong with my car, my review would be different.

I bought a twelve year old car and had no idea what all it was going to need. I took it to Aamco in Irondale. I thought the worst thing that could be wrong is the transmission, so I started there. These folks checked my car from one end to the other and listed everything that it needed (which turned out to be--not much!) and then made a list for me from most important to items that could wait. They serviced the transmission for me after explaining to me why it was going to be okay to do it. I'd heard horror stories about servicing transmission, but they explained to me why. They told me how it all works together and why transmissions fail. Okay. This is a modern world and I'm a very intelligent woman. They told me everything so that I could understand exactly what they meant. Now I know more about my car. Thankfully, it's in great shape. It will continue to be in great shape thanks to these folks!

I CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT A GREAT AUTO SHOP W/ NOT ONLY GREAT MECHANICS, BUT GREAT SERVICE INSIDE TOO. I thought for sure I was looking at a new transmission, but Mr. Jimmy showed me how it was on the engine side, NOT the transmission. He methodically went thru the process of tuning, replacing the Map Air Flow, and one new motor mount. My bill was still over $800....But it wasn't the $2500 I thought I thought I was looking at (the truth is they could have told me thats what is was and i would have believed it and paid them). I have since asked about pricing from other shops for what the did do and been told it's anywhere from $850 - $925. So not only were the completely honest, but they were the east expensive I could have found. Thank you Jimmy Aiken ( I believe is the owner) for running such a clean, honest repair shop!

Aamco goes above and beyond in not only their dedication to repair work but also with helping the community. Embarrassingly I forgot my bank card one day and barely had the nerves to ask a manager for a little bit of oil so my car wouldn't burn up. Robert (manager) threw a few quarts in it without even thinking twice. You can tell that it's a sincere car repair shop with sincere employees. 5 stars!
