While driving from FL back home to OH over Christmas, my car broke down in AL. We called all the nearest auto repair shops and were recommended by another shop to call them, as no one else had availability. The guys got us in quickly and found some wires had been chewed up. They fixed this and sent us on our way just for us to break down again 15 miles later. We got a tow back to the shop. At this point, we were ready to ditch the car. They assumed my engine needed replaced (very common in this year of Hyundai Tucson) and assured us Hyundai would replace it free of charge. The guys stayed after closing to receive my vehicle and personally drive us to a local hotel for the night. Although this was a travel nightmare, everyone at the shop was SO kind, knowledgeable and helpful. We were able to get the car home and now have a free, brand new engine courtesy of Hyundai. THANK YOU

I can't say enough about this shop. They are honest, hard working, friendly, willing to go above and beyond when called for. Ken and his employees are exemplary. A rare find. Consistent every visit. Incredibly helpful. Gardendale is fortunate to have this business.

Felt like they were willing to check everything they could out that the problem could be before diagnosing transmission problems. Offered to check over any car we might buy to let us know if there was a problem.

I cannot praise this company enough!! We broke down in route to Nashville from New Orleans. We arrived 5 minutes before they closed and they wanted us to come back next day @ 8am and had us back on the road by 10am. These men were so amazing, so nice and went over leaps and bounds to help me and my mom get back on the road.Service: BrakesService: Brakes

Incredible experience. I was quoted more than $1500 from the Pep Boys on main street for a tune up, and Decatur Highway and Trans was able to complete the same tune up for less than half! Will be returning!

Ladies and gentlemen in all my life ive never found a shop as honest and kind as this one! This is the kind of shops our grandparents used to tell stories about. True diagnostic ability, very fair pricing, very convenient timing of repairs, helpful and will go out of their way to make sure you are taken care of. I was completely screwed over by pepboys down the street and even firestone next door recommended decatur to me. I was stranded in town because of pepboys. Decatur came to my rescue and got me back to Florida safe and sound. Forever grateful and blessed to have found them. When we move to the area shortly I know I have found my shop forever. I truly cannot recommend this shop strong enough! 5 stars doesnt do it justice. Thank you guys again so very much! You not only fixed what they screwed up but you repaired the other damage they did. Now after weeks of going back and forth with pepboys to get a refund. They wouldnt give it to me unless i was there in person with my card to enter it. I called Ken and he volunteered to leave his shop and go there in person and process my refund! Who does that!!?? Someone who cares about people and this shop truly cares about people. My car broke down just outside Gardendale on the Sunday after New Year's. I was on my way back home to Florida after visiting family for the holidays. The Monday after a holiday is always extremely busy, but the guys at Decatur Highway pushed me to the front of their to-do list, gave me an extremely fair price, and picked me up at my hotel when my car was done. They were quick and courteous, where many other shops would have seen out of town plates and taken advantage by charging exorbitant prices. I'd trust this business for any and all needs. They're good people.

I had a simple task of putting a captive ring in the top of a transfer case. Simple but you need three hands to do it. The owner helped me do it and wouldn t accept my money. I highly recommend this business!Service: TransmissionService: Transmission

STUCK ON I65We were driving home to Tampa from Huntsville, when our car decided to dump a good portion of its coolant and overheat! We starting calling around for help and we finally got in touch with Ken Powell at Decatur Highway Transmission & Motor.Having your car break down is never a fun experience, but I actually didn t mind the trouble simply because of the fact that we got to meet Ken, Rayburn and the boys at Decatur Highway. They are great mechanics who quickly found the problem and formulated a plan to get us back on the road as quick as possible. VOID & ORIGINAL REVIEW: Honest, courteous and so helpful. Took care of the transmission on my Chevy diesel in no time. If needed in the future I will go to them. Recommended by the tow company and now recommended by me.REVISED REVIEW: There was a leak in one of the transmission lines. They were supposed to have repaired it by replacing it. Within two weeks on the highway over a couple hundred miles out of town the line blew off their fake fix (rubber connect) and I was stranded plus out $1,545 in a proper repair, motel, and the delay. Not to mention the fact that I could have totaled my transmission. My question is, was it to due to a lack of experience, dishonesty, or just plain laziness?NOPE, I will never go back to Decatur Transmission.

I had a very poor experience with Decatur Highway Trans & Motor.I dropped off my vehicle after having diagnosed it mostly myself, it then sat for a long time without anyone looking at it. I had to ask them multiple times about its status and practically beg them to start work on it. I even told the owner what diagnostic test to run (compression test). Finally I got a call telling me what I already new, the cylinder heads needed replaced.Actual charges seem to always be hundreds of dollars higher than the quoted prices. I was quoted 400 dollars for the job, and then the price suddenly went to $650 when I showed up, and then I saw that they had already printed a receipt for me in the amount of $750, and I had even driven several hours to get the replacement head for the engine.After that I decided to get my vehicle towed to another shop for the repair, and the owner of Decatur Highway Transmission even called the other shop and tried to give them a guilt trip about taking on my repair... not before charging me $125.00 for the compression test though.Overall they were unprofessional in this situation, and I recommend avoiding this shop.

I had a good experience with Decatur highway and transmission. I have a foreign car nobody wanted to work on it . they were high on their estimates . Decatur highway and transmission gave me a fair and reasonable estimate to fix all my problems with my car . other mechanic shops didn't want to work on it.Decatur highway and transmission or good honest people and they will do whatever it takes to make you satisfied and stand behind their workmanship.I recommend to tanybody that has problems with their car to give them achance they will do a good job

I highly recommend this company. I called while broken down on the side of the interstate, and they came out and helped me on the spot. Brought me the part and helped me install it as well. Very courteous, very knowledgeable and very generous! 10/10!!!

I honestly can not say enough about how unprofessional this place is. A transmission replacement is far too expensive to not have your 30 warranty honored by these con artists when the used transmission they installed as a replacement doesn't work right. Wonder why they don't have any halfway decent reviews? It's because they're not even half way decent. If I could give 0 stars I would, because they should have their business license revoked by the city of Gardendale.

Amazing group of guys. I was traveling thru pulling 41ft 5er when my altenator started messing up on my chevy duramax. I called several places since it was friday afternoon and a diesel nobody had time. When i called they were so nice. Kept saying sure come in we will do it. True to there word. Jumped right on it, had me in and out in an hour 20 min was waiting on part delivery. They offered drinks and snacks, even played ball with my dog. Very reasonable on price. Blocked traffic so i could back out onto hwy. 1st class all the way!!!

Price almost doubled from the quoted price and was not repaired in the stated time. The work so far seems to be good and they were able to tow the vehicle for us.

I would give them a complete 0. My friend got work done over Christmas and his car still isn't right! He is a hard working man with a family. For them not to COMPLETELY fix the problem is beyond crappy!!!
