This place is great! I'm so glad I found James Automotive Center, and I can't say enough good things about the folks here. James and Suzanne gave me (and my 2006 Scion XB) lots of TLC during our first visit, and they'll be my go-to for maintenance and repairs from now on. They're good folks who'll give you an honest evaluation of your car, then follow through with skill and efficiency. After my longtime mechanic retired, I've been looking for an auto shop that I can trust, and this is definitely the one.

This is my second major repair at James Automotive. Let's talk about trust before I move any further. Mr. James and his wife will keep it real with you about your car repair and keep you informed every step of the way. I never felt pressured, and Mr. James called me to the shop to look at my problem firsthand.Communication was excellent from start to finish. They made sure I knew what was going on. I will return to James Automotive anytime i need a repair of just a down home conversation.

I have to say that James and Suzanne are life savers. As I arrived in Birmingham the night before my appointment my check gages light came on showing low oil pressure. I called 6 different shops to have it checked. Sorry we are busy, sorry we dont service vehicles that old, sorry we don't service Dodge. When you are 3.5 hours from home this can be very overwhelming for a 63 yrs old woman. From the moment I walked in they made me feel like everything would be okay. After checking things out it was the sensor and not the oil pump. I was back on the road in a couple of hours. I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs their vehicle looked at. Thank you James and Suzanne for helping this old lady out you are awesome.

This business is extremely unprofessional. Specifically, as an out of town intern, I dropped my car off to James Automotive Center to get fixed. However, I was blatantly told that my car is unrepairable. Additionally, when I arrived to pick up my vehicle, my tag was missing. My car wouldn t start either. I feel exploited. I would not recommend women going to this shop alone.

I don't usually write reviews, but I think James and Suzanne deserve some recognition for the good work that they do. First and foremost, is how refreshing it is to have straight up and honest people to take my vehicle to. Finding a mechanic that you implicitly trust isn't some trivial thing, it can take a long time. When they tell me something needs to be fixed, I don't have that internal debate in my head that happens when I'm at an unknown auto-repair shop. My family has brought three different vehicles for major repairs to James, and we've been happy and satisfied with the work done each time.I should mention that in addition to knowing what he's doing, James' attitude is so positive. Seriously one of the happiest, most jovial people I've ever met. Also, Suzanne is always very sympathetic, and will do her utmost to work within the constraints of your finances and available time.Really can't recommend this place enough.

Fit me in and got my repair done before the end of the day. Mr. James was upfront and very friendly. Susan (Susanne? I've forgotten) made me feel welcome. They were so nice, even offered to give me a ride home while my car was worked on! Reasonable prices too.

I will never use another mechanic again! Thanks to James and Suzanne, my cars brakes work perfectly. James was so helpful, fair, kind, and patient. Fast friendly service. I've had over 2000 dollars worth of work done to my vehicle here and every time I've had to get anything done, it was done quickly and professionally and on time. James is a very knowledgeable mechanic and this is a very professional business. World needs more mechanics like him. Thanks for all your help. Will use in the future and would highly recommend to anyone looking for help with their vehicle.

I explained to James that need rocker arm replaced, and oil plus transmission oil changed on my Lexus. James showed me a picture where he dropped the trans pan. He stated Rocker Arm was completed, I paid nearly 1$100 and explained that I was headed right over to have an alignment done. Couldn't have alignment done because tire rods were busted that James did not mention. Park car in garage and lto eft for trip, when we returned and moved the car there was a large amount of transmission fluid on the floor. James asked me to bring it back. Took it back and James attempted to charge me $1300 to fix a seTook car to a certified lexus shop, who stated and showed me pictures of a very unprofessional job that only costed $200 to correct. When are explaining issue to front desk (wife) she got very upset but could not explain why James wanted to charge 1300 for a $200 job. She stated James would Callback... Waiting. This is the kind of mechanic that give honest mechanics a bad name. Update James and I agreed that he would give $100 for trouble , then his wife got involved and she stated that payment would only be made if I took down my review. Keep the 100 and I will be 100, Every opportunity I get to save someone from dealing with what I went through. Had a oil change back and a few other work done in 2018 before I left to start my career. The phone lady was nice and professional and William was straight forward, fast and charged a reasonable price. William does good work!

We used them to fix our company promaster van for a engine replacement and they held our van for over 6 months and they increased our total from $5000 to almost $10,000 because they had to take our van to voyles after telling us at $7000 there would be no increase in our invoice and they had the audacity to tell us we couldn't use our company credit card to pay because they feared we would reverse the transaction I am beyond hurt and disrespected by the way they have treated us and will never do business with them again. RUDE! RUDE! RUDE! And the more I talk to people the more complaints I hear!!STAY AWAY!!!!!Young lady who answers the phone and handles customer interactions is extremely ignorant to anything automotive and unapologetically rude to new customers wanting information on pricing.James himself is actually worse then the young lady because he will not only turn away business without attempting a resolution but he will also be rude and inform you of his sense of entitlement because he s the only black repair shop on the street.

Maybe james is a good mechanic but I wouldnt know since he turned me off with his initial interaction with me. I made the mistake of assuming he would be as proffesional as the phone lady.although she specified he could do a computer diagnostic.he then said thats too old and he may not be able too. .kept saying you really wanna put money in an 88. An 88 really!. You really wanna... ? Really ? Ah duh.yes thats why i spent 6 hours trying to set up my tow there. Maybe he was letting me know its gonna cost you alot. Maybe she didnt inform him I needed a diagnostic and not work done . i felt akward and unwelcomed like be didnt want my black buisness.but maybe thats based off the big trump pence banner and his seemingly rejection of me. So its subjective.he could be a great mechanic but I woulndnt know..i towed my truck back having no faith in him due to his rude delivery .

I've had four different cars serviced by Mr. James, a mini van, a Grand Marquis, focus, and versa. All in working condition, breaks were needed most of all. Stops on a dime now. Professional, fast and breezy.

Never go here. $400 for a windshield wiper motor. Part at autozone $79. Removed oil pan bolt $74. $ 350 for driver window regulator. Part $90 at autozone. MAJOR RIP OFF.

Way overpriced especially for a simple job. I knew exactly what needed to be done and brought my own part. Tried to charge me $140 to do a 30 minute job
